Position Description:

Medical Director of MSA Program Department of Anesthesiology

Position Summary

The medical director ensures the appropriateness and general effectiveness of the Master of Science in Anesthesia (MSA) programs clinical and didactic curriculum. This is a 0.2 MSA FTE appointed position.


Administrative Responsibilities

Organize administer review plan and develop processes that ensure general effectiveness of the program in conjunction with the Program Director. This may include recommendations to change curricular policy and program requirements.
Participate in team and faculty meetings to review ongoing projects and programmatic needs
Provide strategic medical leadership within the MSA program and as a liaison to other institutional departments (SoM Department of Anesthesiology)
Develop and foster relationships with external clinical affiliates including expansion for new affiliation agreements as needed
Seek opportunities for MCW MSA representation in state and national organizations (WSA ASA AAAA etc.)
Participate in MSA committees as needed with a minimum expectation of admissions and advisory committees

Academic Responsibilities

Participate in teaching of anesthesia practice and coursework focusing on principles of medicine
Ensure continuous and competent medical guidance for the clinical program components so that:
o Supervised clinical instruction meets current standards of acceptable practice
o Student Anesthesiologist Assistants learn develop and practice the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully navigate professional interactions within the anesthesia care team model
Advise students as needed
Responsive to student staff and faculty communications


Medical College of Wisconsin:

Medical College Physicians (MCP):
Medical College Physicians (MCP) Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsins adult specialty care group is an integral component of the Medical College of Wisconsins partnership with Froedtert Health and essential to Froedtert & MCWs successes and achievements in adult clinical care. MCP physicians and advanced practice providers practice at Froedtert Hospital Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital Froedtert West Bend Hospital at other hospitals in the Milwaukee metropolitan area and at various community locations. Over 1000 physicians and 400 advanced practice providers provide care to patients system wide.
Many MCP physicians and APPs also dedicate a percentage of their time to research or education. Their work within the academic and research areas of Medical College of Wisconsin continually drive innovation and generate new knowledge for the next generation of medical leaders.

Community Physicians (CP):
Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Community Physicians is a primary care and multispecialty group with more than 300 physicians and nearly 170 advanced practice providers delivering care in 35 health centers and clinics in southeastern Wisconsin. In fiscal 2019 combined patient visits to these locations totaled more than 900000.

Froedtert Hospital:

Froedtert Hospital is the primary adult hospital affiliate of MCW and is staffed by MCP physicians providing care in all medical specialties and subspecialties. Froedtert and MCW are at the forefront of innovative technology and care in many areas including cancer heart and vascular diseases brain injury and disorders spinal cord injury transplant communication disorders digestive diseases diabetes orthopedics urology and womens health. A 735-bed hospital Froedtert has the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center in eastern Wisconsin. All physicians practicing at Froedtert Hospital are MCW faculty members and share the college academic mission. Froedtert and The Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center is a state-of-the art comprehensive cancer center that brings together everything cancer patients need including world-class cancer specialists innovative cancer therapies advanced treatment technology and the full range of support services to patients and their families. MCW physicians and practitioners provide primary and specialty care at many other hospitals and clinics in metro Milwaukee and Eastern Wisconsin including Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital and Froedtert West Bend Hospital.

Milwaukee is located in the southeast corner of Wisconsin nestled along one of Lake Michigans beautiful bays. It is a wonderful community that has both the advantages of an urban environment and immediate access to outdoor recreational activities. The four-county area (Milwaukee Ozaukee Washington and Waukesha counties) has a population of 1.6 million people.

Education and Professional Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
Licensed and Board Certified in Anesthesiology
Required Rank: Assistant Professor
Requisite knowledge and skills to administer clinical and academic aspects of CAA training with experience in medical supervision of CAA practice
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience serving in a formal role related to CAA training. Knowledge and experience with accreditation standards and requirements set by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs (CAAHEP).
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ability to read analyze and interpret information.
Demonstrate effective verbal written and electronic communication.
