    The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Director of Community Relations & Family Engagement within the Office of Community Engagement.

    DEFINITION: The Director of Community Relations and Family Engagement will oversee the process of developing and implementing a proactive outreach strategy while responding to questions and concerns from the local community driving robust family participation in the education of NPS students. The Director of Community Relations and Family Engagement reports to the Chief Talent Officer.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    1. Masters degree in public policy business or related field from an accredited college or university.
    2. Five (5) or more years of related experience.
    3. Extensive community engagement and strategic stakeholder management experience required.

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Act as chief problem solver: developing an understanding of complex issues listening to concerned community members surfacing creative solutions and bringing the appropriate resources to support resolution.
    2. Serve as a liaison and maintain working relationships with targeted constituents.
    3. Forge new relationships and foster a culture of collaboration on shared campuses.
    4. Represent the community voice in policy and strategy discussions at the executive level.
    5. Serve as the superintendents ambassador at community relations events/activities.
    6. Partner with NPS staff to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders (e.g. funders school leaders political figures etc) as part of a larger engagement strategy.
    7. Lead parent support functions and staff overseeing school-based parent liaisons as well as NPS central office staff that interact with students families.
    8. Serve as a key member of NPS executive team acting as a thought leader and spokesperson on behalf of Newarks parents and ensuring that parents views are represented during executive sessions.
    9. Lead a transformation effort to create a highly effective service-oriented parent engagement department that fosters involvement across the district and serves as an exemplar for districts across the country.
    10. Identify and assess existing points of contact between families and NPS staff to improve the experience for students families and increase the effectiveness of interactions.
    11. Develop new modes of communication (e.g.: web text hotlines) and manage existing forums (e.g.: town meetings hotlines) for NPS to solicit input from the widest range of parents possible.
    12. Create and implement strategies for increased parent engagement developing metrics for monitoring both engagement and satisfaction with interactions at the school and central office level.
    13. Communicate key policy and strategic initiatives to school and community-based parent groups soliciting input and incorporating that input into organizational decision-making.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

    2. Demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail.
    3. Demonstrate a high degree of initiative in resolving problems and developing and implementing solutions in an independent manner.
    4. Strong ability to think strategically and creatively to strike right tone when working through complex issues with community members.
    5. Flexibility and ability to lead and effect change in a fluid and entrepreneurial environment.
    6. Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet concurrent deadlines.
    7. Excellent project management skills.

    REPORTS TO: Department Head

    SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION
    1. Salary: The salary range for this position is $110000-$160000.
    2. Employment Period: Twelve (12) Months
    3. Union Affiliation: Unaffiliated
