Job Description

Indian Education Coordinator (Part time position)

Position Areas

INSTRUCTIONAL/EDUCATIONAL COORDINATION

Description:

Nash County School Districtis accepting on-line applications for the position of a part time Indian Education Coordinator.

Purpose:The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and implement the Districts Indian Education Program.

Essential job duties and responsibilitiesmay include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates staff and Parent Advisory Committee training. Responds to questions or requests for information or action.
  • Serves as counselor advocate and liaison for Indian Education Program.
  • Develops and maintains systems for recording participation attendance and behavior data of American Indian students.
  • Develops methods and programs to meet the special educational and culturally related needs of American Indian students; reviews curriculum materials for use in program.
  • Plans schedules and arranges for instructors for American Indian cultural programs.
  • Determines training needs for staff and Parent Committee; Arranges necessary training.
  • Coordinates programs for non-Indian students as requested by teachers or principals.
  • Recommends purchases and expenditures to meet program needs.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 or 4 year degree in any area/OR
  • Completion of 96 Community College/University contact hours and an acceptable score on college placement test in reading writing and math.

Knowledge of Native American tribes history and culture preferred.
