Transport Planner (School Travel & Road Safety)

Permanent

Grade

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for passionate and enthusiastic people to join our Transport Planning Service and enable safer healthier more sustainable travel in Birmingham.

The team works with schools community groups and other organisations to deliver travel plans. Working with schools across the city you will meet with staff and stakeholders to develop action plans and support initiatives to encourage children and families to change how they travel. You will help with the delivery of audits travel surveys and engagement activities that create environments where people can choose to walk wheel and cycle for the journey to school.

Our ideal candidates will have some experience (paid or voluntary) of working with schools or community groups and be committed to promoting sustainable travel and road safety. You may have an under-graduate degree in a subject such as Geography Environmental Science Spatial Planning Civil Engineering Public Health or Education or equivalent skills and experience gained elsewhere.

We are currently seeing billions of pounds of investment in major developments and infrastructure projects across the West Midlands while the Council is working at scale and pace to bring forward its ambitious Birmingham Transport Plan. Our transport system is being transformed to ensure the city accommodates this growth sustainably and adapts to climate change.

The demand for transport planning expertise is greater than ever to shape our transport strategies and ensure the development delivery and activation of a range of new projects and programmes. We are looking for talented individuals to contribute to specialist sub-teams with areas of focus including school travel planning road harm reduction and improving air quality come and join the team supporting people on this journey!
