PURPOSE:

The job of the LAP Math Teacher is done for the purpose(s) of facilitating student success in mathematics through implementation of district-approved curriculum and research-based strategies; supporting identified students in grades K8 with an emphisis in grades K-5 through small group and individualized instruction; collaborating with staff across all K8 schools; coordinating and guiding paraeducators; creating a safe inclusive and effective learning environment; and monitoring student progress for continuous academic growth.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach mathematics using district-approved curriculum and instructional strategies.
  • Provide targeted support to identified K8 students in small group or one-on-one settings.
  • Guide and coordinate the work of paraeducators who support students in math intervention.
  • Monitor and adjust teaching strategies to meet the changing needs of students.
  • Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessment tools to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Communicate with teachers staff and families regarding student progress expectations and strategies.
  • Create a supportive learning environment that fosters a growth mindset and builds math confidence.
  • Participate in professional development curriculum development and program evaluation.
  • Support paraeducators through training and coaching to ensure fidelity of instruction and student support.
  • Collaborate with building and district teams to align supports with academic goals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation.
  • Participate in school and district-level committees and initiatives as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Functions:

  • Assist other personnel for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective instructional program.
  • Serves on staff committees as needed.
  • Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must qualify for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law.
  • Ability to implement classroom management procedures for large and small groups of students providing an environment conducive to learning.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral form.
  • Ability to integrate relevant technology for the purpose of student learning across curricular areas.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in varied conditions and settings.
  • Ability to assess the needs of students and implement effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate instructional materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students in a mutually respectful supportive and accessible manner.
  • Ability to relate positively to students and adults of varying socioeconomic cultural ethnic backgrounds learning styles and/or disabilities.
  • Ability to process information in order to make sound judgments and decisions.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to plan deliver and adapt mathematics instruction; collaborate with staff; maintain accurate records; use instructional technology tools; and adhere to safety and confidentiality practices.

KNOWLEDGE of elementary and middle-level mathematics instruction research-based intervention strategies stages of child development and effective assessment practices is required. Familiarity with Washington State Learning Standards and best practices for intervention is preferred.

ABILITY to travel between school sites; schedule and lead team meetings; coach and support paraeducators; analyze student data; and communicate effectively with students staff and families. Must be flexible collaborative and able to work with a diverse population.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision; leading a team of paraeducators; and collaborating across multiple school sites. The position requires high levels of initiative organization and the ability to impact student outcomes directly.

Working Environment

The job is performed in a standard school environment requiring the ability to travel between multiple K8 buildings. Physical demands include frequent walking standing and occasional lifting.

Experience: Job-related experience is required.

Education: Bachelors degree (minimum) Masters degree preferred.

Certificated & License Requirements

  • WA State Teaching Certificate with Elementary Education or Math endorsement.
  • Must be highly qualified in Elementary or Middle Level Math.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (preferred).
