ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

BUILDING INSPECTOR

Community Development Department




Hiring Pay Range: $26.83 to $33.54 per hour

New and existing employees start at beginning level of pay range.

FLSA Status: Non- exempt (eligible for overtime)

Pay Grade: 110

Full Pay Range: $26.83 to $40.25 per hour

Position Summary:

Inspects permitted construction both commercial and residential properties; ensures construction whether new or remodeled is built per code and municipal policy; and tracks and updates plans based on field observations. Performs plan reviews as assigned.

Essential Duties:


Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) years of journey level work experience in one or more construction trades; or any equivalent combination of education experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

Licensing Certification and Other Requirements:

Possess and maintain a valid Arizona drivers license and pass a pre-employment drug test. Building Inspector certification from International Code Council preferred. Must possess a Building Inspector certification within twelve (12) months of hire.

Knowledge Skill and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal state and City of Prescott rules regulations policies procedures codes and ordinances related to building codes and enforcement.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of skilled trades related to building construction maintenance repair and renovation.
  • Skill in communicating in writing for administrative and technical purposes.
  • Skill in communicating verbally in both one-on-one and group situations.
  • Skill in utilizing established Department software programs for the processing of inspection and plan review elements of Community Development applications.
  • Skill in using public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints.
  • Ability to safely inspect buildings.
  • Ability to follow and enforce building code regulations.
  • Ability to tactfully provide technical expertise related to non-compliance with building codes.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints as-built drawings and engineering drawings.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both in a City office and outdoors.
  • Safely and effectively performs required duties; safely operates required equipment and City vehicle as needed.
  • Clearly concisely and effectively communicates both in person and over the telephone.
  • Work is performed part of the time working in an environment where errors on this job can lead to significant physical or mental consequences for self or others.
