Key Responsibilities:
- Review architectural and MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) plans to ensure compliance with national fire safety codes (e.g. NBC 2016 NFPA) and local building bye-laws.
- Provide technical expertise in the design and implementation of active and passive fire protection systems (sprinklers alarms fire doors compartmentation etc.).
- Prepare and submit fire safety drawings reports and NOCs for approval by relevant authorities (e.g. Fire Department Municipality).
- Conduct fire risk assessments and ensure fire load calculations are considered during design and construction.
- Liaise with architects structural engineers and consultants to integrate fire safety into overall building design.
- Supervise the installation and testing of fire detection and suppression systems during the construction phase.
- Support project teams in obtaining Fire Clearance Certificates during key project milestones (e.g. occupancy).
- Conduct fire safety training and mock drills for site staff and ensure awareness of emergency evacuation protocols.
- Keep updated with the latest fire safety regulations innovations and construction codes.
- Investigate any fire incidents (if occurred) and provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Fire Engineering / Safety Engineering / Mechanical / Civil or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in fire safety design and management in building construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of NBC (National Building Code) NFPA IS Codes and other relevant fire safety standards.
- Experience in preparing fire safety plans NOC documentation and coordinating with authorities.
- Strong understanding of building materials and their fire-resistance properties.
- Ability to use AutoCAD fire Modeling tools (e.g. Pyro Sim Pathfinder) and MS Office.
