The Senior Director of Business Development is responsible for leading and implementing strategies that grow ACOIs philanthropic support from individual donors industry partners and grantmaking institutions. This role will be critical in building a new pharmaceutical engagement portfolio cultivating relationships and managing the end-to-end process for grant identification submission and reconciliation. The position reports to the Executive Director and works cross-functionally with communications membership and education staff to maximize fundraising outcomes and align fundraising strategies with ACOIs strategic goals.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement an integrated fundraising strategy encompassing individual giving major gifts planned giving and corporate/industry partnerships.
- Identify and cultivate new relationships with pharmaceutical and healthcare industry sponsors to build a robust industry portfolio.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of grants management including researching funding opportunities writing and submitting proposals ensuring compliance tracking outcomes and producing timely reports.
- Build and maintain a strong stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper relationships with donors and sponsors
- Plan and execute donor communications and stewardship activities to engage and retain donors across giving levels.
- Maintain an organized system for donor records correspondence reports and acknowledgments.
- Track and analyze fundraising performance providing regular reports to ACOI leadership
- Coordinate with the Executive Director to support leadership giving and strategic fundraising initiatives.
- Represent ACOI at meetings conventions and with current or potential funders to build meaningful partnerships and secure resources.
- Ensure that all fundraising activities are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations
- Assist with other duties that support the organizations mission.
- Willingness to travel as needed attendance to the ACOI Annual Convention is mandatory for ACOI employees.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelors degree in business administration communications or a related field or a combination of relevant work experience and education.
- Masters degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in development or fundraising preferably within a healthcare association or membership-driven organization.
Required Qualifications
- Proven track record of securing individual gifts corporate sponsorships (especially pharmaceutical/healthcare) and foundation grants.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with donors and sponsors
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing successful fundraising campaigns and donor engagement strategies.
- Strong grant writing and reporting skills with the ability to synthesize complex ideas into compelling proposals and stewardship materials.
- Familiarity with grant compliance and financial reconciliation processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate fundraising performance and make data-informed decisions.
- Proficiency with donor CRM systems and fundraising platforms (e.g. Salesforce Bloomerang DonorPerfect or similar).
- Ability to uphold the ACOIs values with honesty and professionalism in all interactions.
- Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and learn new skills or systems as required.
- Ability to analyze situations think critically and offer solutions to problems.
- Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges proactively addressing tasks
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple deadlines and ensure timely submission of all required materials.

Supervisory Environment
This position operates without direct staff supervision responsibilities but collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Work Environment
This fully remote position operates from an approved office environment. The role mainly involves desk-based tasks but there will be instances of travel and commitments during evenings and weekends notably for the annual meeting and other company events. Participation and attendance to the ACOI Annual Convention is required for all ACOI employees. The role has minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving equipment. This position is not designated as emergency staff and wont typically be required for immediate operational support.
