Job Description

The Help Desk Specialist provides first level of technical support for WPS staff students and families both remotely and in-school. The Help Desk Specialist works directly with end-users to diagnose remedy and/or escalate problems as identified primarily during the school year.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT (FLSA) CLASSIFICATION:

This position is classified as Non- Exempt (Computer Personnel).

Reporting Structure:

The Help Desk Specialist reports to the IT Operations Manager with input from the Director of Educational Technology and other constituents.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree preferred;
  2. Minimum of 2 years demonstrated hardware and software problem-solving skills on multiple platforms;
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills;
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills with a willingness to help others;
  5. Ability to work effectively in a team environment;
  6. Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and meet deadlines;
  7. Highly motivated solution-oriented self-starter with the stamina to multitask in a fast-paced environment;
  8. Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and adapt to change;

Duties:

  1. Provide technical support to WPS staff students and escalate support tickets via the help desk system;
  2. Communicate with users on the status of technical support issues;
  3. Diagnose hardware/software/user issues for tools such as computers (MacOS/Windows) mobile devices (ChromeOS/iOS) and A/V equipment (i.e. Provide hardware support for tools such as computers (MacOS/Windows) mobile devices (ChromeOS/iOS) and A/V equipment (i.e. speakers projectors scanners document cameras interactive displays etc);
  4. Provide support for tools including but not limited to G Suite for Education Seesaw Canvas PowerSchool printing and general operating system questions;
  5. Maintain the Asset Inventory for accurate record keeping;
  6. Participate in the beginning and end-of-year equipment preparation including installing software pre-created images and set-up of workstations;
  7. Evaluate and troubleshoot all software and hardware problems as quickly as possible. Research manufacturers fixes/updates. (e.g. re-imaging machines checking/activating network data drops swapping out peripherals connecting local and network printers virus scanning submitting Help Desk records);
  8. Develop procedures for organization and security of device carts and labs; and
  9. Perform tasks as assigned by the Director of Technology IT Operations Manager or the Network/Systems.

Physical Work Conditions:

Work requires travel between buildings as needed with own transportation and may require long periods of moderate physical activity including but not limited to using a computer using a phone standing bending stooping and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Year: (198 days per fiscal year - student school days (180) plus eighteen (18) days)
