The Duluth Sofidel team is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team. The EHS Manager will provide leadership and coordination of health safety and environmental functions within a manufacturing company. The ideal candidate will have experience creating initiatives and implementing programs and procedures in order to drive a culture of safety compliance and environmental excellence while ensuring the company remains compliant with governmental and organizational regulations and standards. This role will report to the Regional Environmental Health and Safety Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage and maintain current and accurate safety policies manuals and procedures to ensure safety within our facility.
- Ensure applicable federal and state regulations as well as corporate guidelines and policies are adhered to.
- Develop effective training programs that satisfy legal requirements and reinforce a safe environment.
- Provide training to employees supervisors and managers on safety policies and practices.
- Manage emergency action plans for employees and property.
- Provide safety orientation for all new employees as well as all visiting contractors.
- Supervise EHS Specialist and provide development and training.
- Serve as a safety representative for all new equipment.
- Conduct scheduled Safety Committee meetings for both plant and management employees.
- Perform safety audits throughout the manufacturing facility as required for internal and external sources.
- Manage worker compensation claims and communicate with the insurance carrier and broker as necessary.
- Conduct risk assessments for all departments and make recommendations for modifications to practices policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Observe employees throughout the plant and provide coaching in regards to unsafe acts and behaviors.
- Communicate regulatory and permit requirements to the plant.
- Maintain a supply of safety equipment (PPE) used by the facility.
- Prepare safety budget recommendations and investigate and report on budget variances.
- Act as the security administrator for the facility.
- Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities communicate issues obtain approvals resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments requirements policies and regulatory guidelines.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health and Safety Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 5 years EHS experience in industrial environment.

- Ability to use computer and peripherals standard and customized software applications and tools and usual production equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and quality procedure manuals
The role involves working in a paper manufacturing facility which may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). PPE may include safety shoes eye and ear protection reflective vests and a head cover or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range from season to season. Employees will be exposed to paper dust and noise levels that may require hearing protection.
