Job Description
The University of Tulsa is seeking a Director of Academic Technology to lead and support the use of educational technologies across campus-based and online programs. This role is crucial in supporting teaching and learning experiences through faculty training and technology implementation. The Director of Academic Technology will oversee the Universitys Blackboard Learning Management Systems ( LMS ) and provide guidance on academic technologies that improve student success and faculty engagement in both face-to-face and online environments. In this leadership role you will manage LMS and other educational technology platforms design and deliver comprehensive faculty development programs related to academic technologies and collaborate across departments to support the use of academic technologies for teaching. Essential Functions (Responsibilities): Serve as the primary point of contact for academic educational technology use at the university. Manage a set of educational technology platforms including the LMS (Blackboard) multimedia tools and third-party curriculum integrations. Facilitate faculty orientations ongoing training sessions and workshops to equip instructors with the skills needed to effectively use educational technologies and the LMS . Create and maintain training materials documentation and resources on use of education technology tools and best practices. Oversee the maintenance updates and troubleshooting of the LMS ensuring its functionality aligns with the evolving needs of faculty and students. Provide day-to-day support for faculty staff and students by addressing academic technology-related inquiries and resolving technical issues. Collaborate with Provost office colleagues academic groups online learning and faculty to develop technology solutions that meet both pedagogical and institutional goals. Collaborate with Information Technology and Security teams to ensure secure scalable and effective implementation and operation of educational technologies. Stay current with trends in academic and instructional technology and pedagogy by attending professional development programs and participating in industry conferences. Required Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Expertise in LMS administration on the Blackboard Learn platform including troubleshooting course design and platform management. Proficiency in the use of educational technology tools and platforms to enhance teaching and learning (Panopto and Respondus preferred). Strong background in training faculty with a focus on LMS usage course delivery and best practices in online blended and in-person classrooms. Experience managing projects setting priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in educational technology instructional design computer science information technology or a related field (Masters preferred). At least five years of experience working with education technology and training and a minimum of three years experience as a Blackboard LMS administrator. Teaching experience is preferred with a solid understanding of pedagogical best practices in both online and in-person learning environments.
