Job Description

60% In-Class Instructional Support:

  • Assist the instructor during in-person lectures by managing classroom materials facilitating discussions and supporting student engagement.25% Student Support & Tutoring:
  • Hold regular office hours and conduct group tutoring sessions to address student questions review course concepts and support academic success.

5% Weekly Coordination Meetings:

  • Participate in weekly planning and organizational meetings to align on course content instructional goals and student support strategies.

5% Recitation Facilitation:

  • Lead or support afternoon or evening recitation sections to reinforce course material and provide additional instruction.

5% Peer Coordination:

  • Collaborate with other Undergraduate Teaching Assistants (UGTAs) and graders to ensure consistent grading practices effective communication and smooth course operation.

Work Schedule

  1. Must have successfully completed the course you are applying to support (or an equivalent course) such as PHSX 114 PHSX 115EPHX/PHSX 210 or 211 as indicated on application materials.
  2. Must be in good academic standing as demonstrated through submitted application materials.
  3. Must be available to attend all in-person lecture sessions. Please verify the scheduled lecture times at before applying. Please confirm availability on application materials.


  1. Prior experience in teaching or tutoring academic subjects as indicated on application materials.
  2. Declared major in Astronomy (ASTR) Physics (PHSX) or Engineering Physics (EPHX) as indicated on application materials.


This position provides instructional support for a university-level course through a variety of academic and organizational responsibilities. Duties include assisting during class sessions leading supplemental instructional activities providing academic support to students outside of class time and engaging in coordination efforts with course staff and instructional teams.



Complete applications will include:

  • Copy of your Degree Progress Report (DPR).

Position Requirements
During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions
(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
