About the role
selectability is currently seeking an enthusiastic youth mentor to join our BikeShed Programan initiative designed to empower at-risk youth. This is more than a mentoring role; its a chance to make a lasting difference in young lives through guidance support and skill-building.
The youth mentor will support after-school activities like bike repair group cycling life skills workshops and cultural connection sessions with First Nations Elders. Through mentoring and peer support youll help young people overcome challenges reduce challenging behaviours and steer them toward long-term success.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- supporting at-risk young people to engage more effectively with education employment readiness programs and broader community initiatives
- promoting and fostering stronger connections to family and community networks
- supporting young persons by encouraging positive decision-making and providing consistent support to disengaged or justice-involved young people

About you
To be considered for this rewarding role you will have:
- excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- a demonstrated ability to prioritise conflicting priorities as required
- ability to work under minimal supervision with the capacity to exercise initiative in the application of work processes and procedures and establish objectives and outcomes
- a demonstrated ability to show empathy and compassion
- a proven ability to think critically and approach challenges with innovation
- positive can-do attitude
Role Requirements
- previous experience working with disadvantaged youth
- current nationally recognised first aid and CPR certificates (or ability to obtain)
- a Positive Notice Working with Children (blue card) (or the ability to obtain prior to commencing)
- a current NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module Quality Safety & You completion certificate (or the ability to obtain)
- a current minimum P1 C class Queensland drivers licence
- roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance
About the offer
The youth mentor is a permanent part time fixed term position until 31 March 2027 based in Rockhampton.
