About the role!
The Mentor Teacher is responsible for serving as the lead teacher in specialized academic instruction legal compliance of IEPs and support in facilitating professional development and mentoring of classroom teachers. The Mentor Teacher supports teachers in designing and implementing the school curriculum completing assessments and monitoring progress. They are the site coordinators for State Assessments. Additionally the Mentor Teacher completes academic standardized assessments mentors new teachers in administering the assessment and reports assessment results in IEP meetings.This position currently reports to the Head of School.
As a Mentor Teacher you will:
Model instruction.
Provide instructional support and coaching to teachers.
Provide development support.
Provide support in presenting at IEP meetings.
Provide classroom coverage.
Complete academic testing for triennial IEPs.
Support staff in the design planning and implementation of parent-teacher conferences.
Support the transition to SEIS and SIRAS.
Update all goals 3x/year in electronic IEP systems.
Complete informal observations monthly and provide written feedback related to practices in alignment with CSTPs.
Meet with teachers individually on a bi-weekly basis.
Work collaboratively with the administrative team to provide professional learning opportunities for staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of and classroom teaching experience with children who have serious social-emotional behavioral and learning challenges.
Ability to develop prepare deliver and monitor progress on IEP goals.
Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team and to provide guidance/supervision to emerging teachers/teaching assistants/interns.
Knowledge of basic computer skills and preferably using new technologies such as SMARTboards document cameras Zoom etc.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving/conflict-resolution skills.
Proven ability and desire to be part of an inter-disciplinary school setting.
Possesses strong interpersonal and written communication skills with demonstrated sensitivity to lay and professional audiences.
Flexibility in scheduling appointments and punctuality in meeting all commitments.
Knowledge of evidence-based instructional practices.
About your background (education/experience):
Minimum of 5 years teaching experience with vulnerable populations; Masters Degree preferred
Valid CA credential or valid transfer of out-of-state credential
Has recent experience working in a classroom of ED children and understands the etiologies of students who have anxiety attention mood dysregulation and specific learning challenges
Has practical knowledge of Common Core Standards Universal Design for Learning differentiated instruction and have implemented these instructional approaches in previous work environments
Adept at identifying and implementing accommodations and interventions
Has experience preparing and presenting Individual Educational Plans (IEPs)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Working Conditions
Physical Requirements:
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Ability to undergo training and implementation of Crisis Response Training
Ability to stand and sit for extended periods for instruction and supervision
Special Job Requirements:
It will be necessary for the Mentor Teacher to occasionally attend after-school or agency-wide events that take place after regular school hours.
The Mentor Teacher is expected to attend such events as they are scheduled.
Contact with Others: Extensive interpersonal interaction with peers and outside contacts.
Compensation:
Range: $100000-$125000 per year
Pay Type: salary
* The starting base salary for this position is as shown above. The actual base salary is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background training work experience location business needs and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
