The position School Accounting Technician is responsible to maintain accounting records and process accounting transactions in an assigned high school. Duties include accounting for Associated Student Body funds; assisting with budgeting; advising students and staff on handling funds; cashiering; preparing purchase orders; reconciling bank statements; coordinating with the district business office; and performing a variety of other accounting-related duties.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
Advises faculty and staff in assigned school on management of ASB general and vocational fund budgets; conducts workshops for ASB and club officers and advisors; assists students and staff in preparing budgets; maintains current knowledge of policies and regulations governing school funds and provides advice on compliance issues.
Manages school accounting functions; develops monitors implements and maintains accounting and data collection systems; maintains accounting records; documents accounting transactions on computerized system; designs school-specific forms; verifies authorization signatures; prepares and distributes statements of school financial activity for all school funds.
Provides information and assistance to students staff and visitors making use of accounting office services; serves as a liaison between the school and the district accounting and business offices for all purchasing and accounting related matters; serves as liaison with auditors and provides information and explanations.
Assists school administrators staff and students with purchasing needs; types purchase orders; tracks shipments and researches vendors; collects and maintains records of annual KCDA order; maintains records of invoices; obtains payment authorizations as necessary; processes invoices and authorizes payments.
Acts as school cashier; accounts for all revenue generated at school or on behalf of school; prepares bank deposits; maintains and reconciles ASB revolving fund bank accounts; issues checks and forwards documentation to district accounting office.
Sells workbooks yearbooks ASB cards dance tickets and other items; collects class fees and fines; maintains security of official pre-numbered documents and cash on hand; controls cash change funds checked out for activities; maintains sales lists on database and prepares and distributes sales reports.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous record keeping and school support functions; maintains records of fines and fees owed by students and sends notices; trains and supervises student workers and coordinates payment from ASB funds; processes extended field trip forms travel requests and certification forms.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to and is directly supervised by Principal Assistant Principal or Office Manager as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Required:
One year of college level accounting course work plus 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; school office experience preferred.
Preferred:
School district experience desirable;
Some experience with other computer applications including spreadsheets and word processing desirable.
Allowable Substitutions:
Two additional years of qualifying experience may substitute for the college-level coursework.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
AISP pay range D $30.67/hour to $32.62/hour (starting $ 30.67/ hour) 7:30am to 4:00pm 40 hours per week for 237 days annual position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Medical dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
