OFFICE OF RESEARCH SERVICES

The Office of Research Services (ORS) within the Office of the Vice-President Research (OVPR) and under the direction of the Executive Director ORS provides pre-awards post-awards partnership development intellectual property (IP) & agreements management technology and knowledge transfer commercialization and support services for research agreements to faculty staff and students on the Fredericton and Saint John campuses.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri 7:45 am - 4:00 pm 36.25 hours per week (Summer Hours)

Salary Range: $56416 - $73324 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Director Research Operations & Services the Agreements Officer supports university faculty members seeking to enter into contractually funded research projects assists in preparing bids for public tenders and other funding agreements and reviews successfully awarded contracts. The Officer fosters relationships with industry partners as a focal point for UNB.

  • Draft and review research agreements including industry-sponsored collaborative funding contribution services and international agreements.
  • Protect UNB researchers intellectual property rights and graduate student thesis and copyright ownership.
  • Ensure appropriate liability insurance confidentiality and indirect cost recovery clauses are in place.
  • Negotiate and approve amendments to existing research agreements.
  • Facilitate the signing of research contracts and agreements in accordance with UNB policies and practices.
  • Assist researchers in preparing bid documents and budgets that comply with indirect cost recovery policies.
  • Monitor and address regulatory requirements related to agreements.
  • Identify and support the resolution of conflicts of interest including providing related training.
  • Liaise with external agencies including national international and U.S. agencies or government bodies to support agreement processing.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Deans Chairs and Directors to support contract preparation and review.
  • Collaborate with People & Culture on agreements for independent contractors and with Procurement on purchase orders and sole-source contracts.
  • Liaise with internal and external regulatory boards and agencies to ensure compliance with certifications and renewals.
  • Perform other duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Post-secondary degree in a relevant field including education/training related to contracts and/or contracts law.
  • 5 years of relevant experience with negotiating drafting and reviewing of research agreements.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Strengths

  • Experience in contract drafting/negotiation with industry and government agencies.
  • Familiarity with a university and/or private sector research and development environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client service.
  • Analytical problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent judgment decision making and organizational skills.
  • Superior written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work under multiple conflicting deadlines.
  • A significant level of computer literacy and demonstration of proficiency in electronic communications.
