Job Description: ELA and Math Interventionists
Position Type: Certified
Location: District-Wide
Reports To: Building Principal and Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Work Schedule: 187 Days

Position Overview

The West Bolivar Consolidated School District is seeking highly motivated and dedicated ELA and Math Interventionists to provide targeted academic support to students in need of intensive remediation. The interventionists will use data-driven practices and evidence-based strategies to support student growth and improve academic achievement in English Language Arts and Mathematics. These positions are instrumental in supporting the districts mission to provide high-quality instruction and to ensure every student is successful.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ELA Interventionist Responsibilities:

  • Provide small-group and one-on-one reading interventions to students identified as performing below grade level.

  • Implement research-based reading strategies aligned with the Science of Reading framework.

  • Administer and analyze diagnostic assessments (e.g. iReady DIBELS MAP) to identify specific reading deficits and monitor student progress.

  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and regularly communicate results to teachers support staff and administrators.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading intervention strategies into Tier I instruction.

  • Support Response to Intervention (RTI) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) frameworks.

  • Assist in planning and delivering professional development for teachers on effective literacy practices.

Math Interventionist Responsibilities:

  • Deliver targeted small-group or individualized math instruction with a focus on foundational skills fluency and conceptual understanding.

  • Use diagnostic tools to identify skill gaps in number sense problem-solving computation and algebraic thinking.

  • Provide timely consistent support that reinforces core classroom instruction and helps prevent learning loss.

  • Work with general education teachers to align interventions with the districts math curriculum and state standards.

  • Collect and analyze data to track student growth and make data-informed instructional decisions.

  • Participate in intervention team meetings and contribute to school-level academic planning and RTI processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field; Masters degree preferred.

  • Valid Mississippi teaching license with appropriate endorsements in Elementary Education Reading or Mathematics.

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Science of Reading structured literacy and/or effective numeracy interventions.

  • Experience using data to inform instruction and progress monitoring.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with students parents and staff.

  • Commitment to closing achievement gaps and supporting all learners.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Training in Orton-Gillingham LETRS or other structured literacy programs (for ELA).

  • Experience with math intervention programs such as Bridges Intervention Do the Math or Number Worlds.

  • Familiarity with the Mississippi College- and Career-Readiness Standards.

  • Ability to motivate and engage students with diverse academic needs.

  • Positive student-centered approach to instruction and intervention.

Terms of Employment

  • Salary: Based on the districts certified teacher salary schedule and qualifications.

  • Length of Contract: 187 days

  • Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policy and procedures.
