Job Description

Position Description:

The Director of Technology is responsible for but not limited to the planning integration and support of all data center and district infrastructure technologies including networking Internet MAN/LAN infrastructure components wiring storage servers email and Telecommunications. Oversees the managers of the various areas within and determines how to best meet the technology needs of a large-scale environment. The position can require extend or on call work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine.

Executive Director of Technology

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Manage the overall operations of the districts technology infrastructure for all district locations.
  • Responsible for the daily operations of the two district Data Centers.
  • Initiate plan design and implement technologies and infrastructure requirements for the on-going needs and future growth of the JPPSS technical environment.
  • Responsible for the requisition of both new and upgrade of technology infrastructure hardware and software within the district.
  • Write and manage Request-For-Proposals (RFP) as required to acquire technology products and/or services.
  • Create and oversee technology project teams as required to meet the technology needs of the district.
  • Act as liaison between JPPSS and technology Vendors and Service Providers.
  • Oversee and/or manage technology Vendors and Services Providers as needed for technical projects and daily operations.
  • Track forecast and manage the demand of the technology needs of the district.
  • Provide guidance and vision for future technology needs for the district.
  • Provide guidance and vision to other technology directors on the overall operations of the department. Manage the departments operational budget and represent the district on committees working with district leadership to establish technology standards.
  • Oversee the management of department staff and staff development.
  • Scheduling of daily operations as well as coordinating services with other district departments.
  • Oversee departmental programs including the Teacher Laptop program and the On-Line Quoting System (Buytech).
  • Ensure all Technology/Facility department projects are handled in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the technical aspects of School Board Meetings.
  • Analyze troubleshoot and implement corrective measures to maintain services for the district. Consult with administrators to support and assess individual departments and site technology needs.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Technology.
  • Responsible to carry and answer system issued phone before during and after normal work hours due to emergencies or extenuating circumstances related to safety or operational routine. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Technology.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5 years of progressively increasing experience.
  • Strong communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change agent and culturecreator that can inspire and motivate.

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to make decisions and recommendations.

  • Collaborative management style with a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision-making and results.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.
  • Bachelors degree in Information Management or equivalent technical work experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Information Management or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Eight years of computer related work experience.
  • Three to eight years of experience in developing and maintaining computer systems.
  • Excellent problem solver.

Physical Involvement:

Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations and/or areas. Sitting is required most of the day. Standing walking reaching bending and lifting up to forty pounds is sometimes required. A portion of the workday is spent reading computer screens.
