Job Description

The Building Center Inc.

Job Title:Class A - CDL Driver

Reports to:Operations Manager

FLSA Status:Hourly Non-Exempt

Division:Easley SC

Summary:

The Building Center is seeking a Class A CDL Driver with manual transmission certification to deliver materials accurately and on time to our customers. This role demands a strong focus on safety professionalism and compliance with all DOT regulations. The position offers a stable predictable schedule with no overnight travel ensuring you return home daily. Ideal candidates are dependable drivers who take pride in providing exceptional service while representing a reputable company.


Job Duties:

  • Assist with and oversee truck loading securing items and verify shipping paper accuracy

  • Inspect truck tires lights brakes fluids and perform preventive maintenance to ensure safe cost-effective operation

  • Deliver orders using the most efficient routes meeting delivery schedules and customer requirements

  • Maintain communication with the company to receive updated delivery instructions

  • Document deliveries and order accuracy; report discrepancies promptly

  • Enhance customer satisfaction by collecting feedback resolving complaints per policy and sharing insights with the company

  • Inform customers about new products and services to support sales growth

  • Manage truck maintenance driving records and required safety and security documentation

  • Stay current with job knowledge and company procedures

  • Operate forklifts and warehouse equipment safely as needed

  • Maintain a clean driving record with no violations

  • Perform occasional warehouse and counter duties

  • Utilize computerized systems and technology proficiently

  • Follow all company policies and procedures

  • Perform additional duties as assigned


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Demonstrated superior customer service skills

  • Professional and courteous demeanor

  • Working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations

  • Ability to follow simple one- or two-step instructions using common sense

  • Capability to handle standardized situations with minimal variables

  • Ability to comprehend and carry out detailed but straightforward written or oral instructions

  • Problem-solving skills for issues involving a few concrete variables in routine situations

  • Proficient in reading and understanding simple instructions short correspondence and memos

  • Ability to write basic correspondence clearly and effectively

  • Strong communication skills for presenting information one-on-one or in small group settings with customers clients and coworkers

  • Basic math skills including addition subtraction multiplication and division with whole numbers fractions and decimals

  • Ability to calculate rates ratios and percentages and to interpret bar graphs


Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with manual transmission certification required

  • Clean driving record with a minimum of 3 years experience operating commercial vehicles

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards

  • Experience with timely and accurate delivery of goods is preferred

  • Strong communication and customer service skills


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Fast-paced physically demanding environment typical of the building materials industry

  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions such as heat cold rain and snow

  • Regular interaction and collaboration with warehouse staff drivers and customers

  • While performing job duties employees are regularly required to stand walk reach with hands and arms climb balance stoop kneel crouch crawl talk and hear

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 200 pounds assisted and move or lift 100 pounds unassisted

  • Strict adherence to safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment for all
