Job Description

Holy Family Parish located in Davidsonville Maryland seeks candidates for a Director of Parish Operations. The Director of Parish Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative financial operational and facility functions of the parish. In collaboration with the Pastor and under his direction the Director of Parish Operations ensures effective stewardship of parish resources and provides leadership and supervision for parish staff and volunteers. This role supports the mission of the Catholic Church by fostering a professional organized and welcoming parish environment. This position is full-time and may include occasional evening or weekend hours to support parish functions. The role is performed primarily in an office environment.

Essential Functions

Leadership and Organizational Management:

  • Serves as the principal administrative officer for the parish and advisor to the Pastor on all operational matters.
  • Coordinates the implementation of parish priorities and strategic plans in collaboration with the Pastor staff and lay leadership.
  • Ensures the parish staff prepares materials and provides administrative support for the Finance Council and Pastoral Council.
  • Fosters a culture of collaboration respect and professionalism among staff and ministry leaders.

Financial Management:

  • Oversees all financial operations of the parish including budgeting accounting payroll cash flow and financial reporting.
  • Ensures proper internal controls timely reporting and compliance with diocesan and civil requirements.
  • Coordinates the annual budget process and provides regular financial updates to the Pastor and Finance Council.
  • Supervises the work of the bookkeeper or accounting personnel and ensures accurate and transparent financial practices.

Human Resources and Staff Supervision:

  • Recruits develops supervises and evaluates parish staff in accordance with diocesan policies and procedures.
  • Maintains personnel records and administers employee benefits job descriptions and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with diocesan safe environment policies and all civil employment regulations.
  • Cultivates a positive work environment and provides professional development opportunities where appropriate.

    Facilities and Operations:

    • Manages all parish facilities ensuring maintenance safety security cleanliness and functionality.
    • Oversees contracts for vendors service providers and facility-related projects.
    • Coordinates logistics and support for parish events sacramental celebrations and liturgical activities.
    • Maintains an inventory of parish assets and ensures stewardship of physical resources.

    Administrative Services and Compliance:

    • Oversees general office operations including technology systems records management communications scheduling and reception services.
    • Ensures proper maintenance of sacramental and parish records and compliance with diocesan and canonical guidelines.
    • Coordinates parish insurance risk management and legal matters in consultation with the diocesan offices.
    • Implements and monitors parish administrative policies and procedures.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    The Director supervises the parish administrative staff maintenance personnel bookkeeper and other support staff. This position may also oversee volunteers and ministry leaders in coordination with the Pastor.

    Position Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in Business Administration Management Accounting or a related field required
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in business government nonprofit or church administration with supervisory experience.
    • Familiarity with Catholic parish life and a commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church.
    • Practicing Catholic in good standing strongly preferred. Must complete diocesan background screening Safe Environment training and maintain ongoing compliance.

    Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

    • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage people and processes effectively.
    • Proficiency in financial management budgeting and reporting.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality discretion and professionalism at all times.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Google Workspace accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and/or other parish management systems.
    • Knowledge of diocesan policies and civil regulations related to employment finance and facilities management.

    Pay Range: $62000 - 75000 Annualized
