The Position:
The Director of Simulation leads the strategic and operational oversight of simulation-based education at KansasCOM. This role includes managing simulation activities collaborating with faculty to create high-impact educational experiences overseeing simulation center operations and standardized patient (SP) programs and contributing to scholarship and service that advances the mission of the University.

About the Simulation Center:
KansasCOM provides students with innovative technological resources to bolster their program experience and improve their ability to discover techniques for optimal patient care. An interprofessional medical education curriculum includes multiple simulation-based learning modalities making simulation an essential part of their core curriculum. The state-of-the-art 22000 sq. ft Simulation Center was meticulously designed to enhance the learning environment and needs of the modern-day medical student using interactive simulation experiences in conjunction with classroom learning to develop better prepared clinical practitioners while improving quality health care education and patient safety. Featuring two highly functional simulation labs and several other simulated-learning areas the center has both an in-patient wing and an out-patient wing.
The inpatient wing is designed to replicate a hospital settingfeaturing patient rooms an operating/birthing room an emergency/intensive care unit and a student check-in. Each room has an adjacent control room for simulation technicians and faculty to observe the learner. The lab also features manikins (in varying sizes from infant to adult) that create a unique interactive learning environment.
The outpatient wing is constructed for learners to interact with simulated patients (SPs) during simulations. It consists of twelve fully furnished exam rooms equipped with audio/video capture a control room a debriefing and meeting room student and SP check-in and an SP lounge. The purpose is to create an authentic clinical space where learners can sharpen their assessment and communication skills with live simulated patients.
The KansasCOM Simulation Center has foundations in adult learning theory Standards of Best Practice in Simulation Standards of Best Practice for Simulated Patients and Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.
About Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine:
Kansas Health Science University opened one of the nations newest medical schools Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine known as KansasCOM in 2022. Tiffany Masson Psy.D. President of Kansas Health Science University (KHSU) is an exemplary leader in higher education with more than 15 years of experience leading teams to find innovative technology-driven solutions to the concerns facing universities across the world. She obtained her doctorate of psychology in 2002. She completed her post-doctoral training at U.C. Accreditation:
Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KansasCOM) has been granted pre-accreditation status from the American Osteopathic Associations Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). COCA is the accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) for predoctoral education of osteopathic physicians in the United States.
Pre-accreditation as distinct from full accreditation permits the KansasCOM to solicit applications and admit students offer medical instruction within the approved osteopathic medical curriculum and announce its Pre-Accreditation Status. KansasCOM can be considered for full accreditation status following the graduation of its first class which it anticipates will occur in May 2026. The attainment of full accreditation status is subject to review and approval by COCA.
