Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our UK Relations and Legislation Team which sits within the Transport Strategy and Analysis Directorate (TSA).

This role is in a busy friendly and interesting area where you will be responsible for the day to day engagement and collaboration with the UK Government and other Devolved Governments to maintain a constructive relationship in a way which respects and protects devolved responsibilities.

The post focuses on understanding/ seeking intelligence on UKG policy development identifying any links to SG policy and where possible look to ensure that Scottish Ministers have the opportunity to influence policy development even within the Reserved space.

The role provides the opportunity to gain exposure to various types of work in a fast-changing environment and flexibility and adaptability are key in this role to meet evolving priorities.

The UK Relations and Legislation team is led by a UK Relations and Legislation Manager. On the UK Relations side of the team the team is led by a UK Relations Senior Policy Officer to whom this post will report. The role also includes direct line management for one Business Support Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting and compiling briefing material in relation to UKG policy on cross-cutting matters or events.
  • Contributing to and responding to correspondence ministerial briefings PQs FOI including commissioning contributions from policy leads across TS as required.
  • Liaising across Transport Scotland directorates to collate and share intelligence about UK engagement and supporting the TS UK Relations Group and modes of transport working groups.
  • Providing secretariat for quarterly Inter-Ministerial Group monthly 4 Nations Group British-Irish Council Transport Work Sector Officials Group Transport Scotland internal and external modes of transport meetings including supporting the drafting of ministerial briefings and policy papers as required.
  • Review and analyse the Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Tracker and extrapolate key information for presentation to SMT and Ministers via the Transport Scotland Intergovernmental Key Activities Dashboard.
  • Produce regular TSA Intergovernmental and EU Relations newsletters.
  • Regular engagement with PO to discuss engagement arrangements for Cabinet Secretary to ensure the smooth running of events/meetings discuss correspondence and other governance processes to ensure official records have been accurately maintained.

Working Pattern

Location

This post is based inGlasgow with hybrid working in line with current Transport Scotland policies. You will be expected to be office based twice per week pro rata.
