You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailVista Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Cancer and HSVI Trauma Registrar to join our dedicated Oncology and Health Information Management teams. This critical role ensures accurate data collection coding and reporting of cancer diagnoses and traumatic injuries including head spinal cord and violent injuries. The Registrar supports research treatment planning quality improvement and compliance with state and national reporting requirements. This is an on-site position that requires the ability to travel to the hospital for work.
Abstract and document newly diagnosed cancer cases including demographics diagnosis treatment and outcomes.
Apply proper coding (e.g. ICD-10 AJCC TNM staging) to classify diagnoses and procedures.
Maintain the cancer registry in compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards.
Submit timely and accurate data to the National Cancer Database (NCDB) SEER and the Illinois State Cancer Registry.
Perform regular data audits to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Identify and abstract qualifying cases for the Illinois HSVI Registry including TBIs SCIs and injuries due to intentional harm.
Record comprehensive injury data including cause body systems affected and injury circumstances.
Submit trauma data in accordance with Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements.
Stay informed on HSVI definitions and trauma classification protocols.
Collaborate with oncology trauma emergency neurology and HIM teams to ensure complete and accurate records.
Provide education and guidance to clinicians on documentation practices for registry reporting.
Produce reports and statistical summaries for internal stakeholders public health initiatives and performance improvement projects.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA and Vista Medical Centers privacy policies.
Participate in ongoing training state and national registry conferences and continuing education.
Stay current on updates in cancer and trauma registry requirements and coding practices.
Education:
Associates or bachelors degree in health information management Medical Records or a related field.
Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) preferred or required within a specified time frame after hire.
Additional training in trauma registry abstraction or injury coding is strongly preferred.
Experience:
Experience in cancer or trauma registry abstraction or a related health information role.
Familiarity with registry software such as CNExT METRIQ or state-approved platforms.
Solid understanding of oncology and trauma terminology injury classifications and coding standards.
Skills:
High attention to detail and data accuracy.
Strong medical coding organizational and analytical skills.
Effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Commitment to privacy data integrity and professional ethics.
