DescriptionThe Vice Chair is a board-certified cardiologist with delegated authority from Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) Minnesota Executive Operations Team (MN EOT) to lead the Cardiovascular Medicine practice across MCHS Minnesota. They are to collaborate with the MCHS Department of Cardiovascular Medicine leadership to develop an integrated highly functioning Cardiovascular Medicine service line to serve the communities of the state. Together with an administrative and nursing partner the vice chair is responsible for defining and implementing a strategic plan with the aims of quality safety efficiency patient experience and staff satisfaction in the Minnesota Cardiovascular Medicine practice. The vice chair will be responsible for developing and managing Cardiovascular Medicine healthcare services across MCHS Minnesota in an integrated coordinated and efficient manner.
The position also includes MCHS-wide leadership of a Cardiovascular Medicine service line such as outpatient inpatient cardiac imaging interventional cardiology or heart rhythm services. The final assignment to service line leadership will be determined after the candidate is selected.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and communicate the strategic direction and plan for cardiovascular services in MCHS Minnesota in a coordinated fashion with the broader MCHS Department of Cardiovascular Medicine.
Provide leadership to physician and APP colleagues (including development coaching mentoring and succession planning activities) while keeping the MCHS Minnesota Leadership and MCHS Cardiovascular Medicine leadership informed of the performance of the staff.
Responsible for the leadership and management of the practice across MCHS Minnesota including:
- In coordination with MCHS leadership lead recruitment efforts for new staff in the department.
- Represent MCHS Minnesota on the MCHS Department of Cardiovascular Medicine committees where applicable.
- Participate in the creation and implementation of the specialty practice operating plan in alignment with the MCHS strategic plan for the state.
- Work collaboratively with other chairs to coordinate and oversee statewide initiatives and activities.
- Develop relationships related to the practice information systems culture and markets at all MCHS hospital sites in Minnesota.
- Provide ongoing communication of institutional system and departmental practice issues to the staff.
- Track and communicate results/progress toward departmental and regional/state performance measures and targets (e.g. quality volumes access/demand productivity credentialing/upgrading staff skills value-based metrics and financial outcomes).
- Ensure the alignment of critical resources to achieve goals for the department and the Mayo three shields as applicable.
- Collaborate closely with the MCHS Department of Cardiovascular Medicine to promote best practices education and research aims for mutual patients.
- Foster mutual respect and appreciation for individual differences; promote diversity objectives in all staff selection performance management and development efforts; facilitate productive working relationships and resolve conflicts among staff and between staff groups in the Cardiovascular Medicine Department.

Position Requirements
- Academic rank of Associate Professor or higher.

Organizational Requirements
FTE for this role is 0.20 which includes 0.15 FTE for vice chair role and 0.05 FTE for service line leadership.
Evaluation
An annual performance review will be conducted with 360-degree feedback solicited from key stakeholders.
Accountability
The MCHS Minnesota vice chair of Cardiovascular Medicine will report to the MCHS Cardiovascular Medicine chair and will have matrix reporting to the Minnesota Vice President.
Qualifications- Board-certified in Cardiovascular Diseases

- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Minnesota
