This Engineering Technician 1 - 4assists professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians in the performance of materials testing and/or office duties in District 61s lab.

Job Duties & Responsibilities: 60% Assists the District Lab Engineer (Engineer 6) and/or Engineering Technician 7 (supervisor) in the sampling testing and reporting of construction materials for use in DOTD construction projects to ensure compliance with DOTD policies procedures and specifications. Assists in maintaining the completeness and accuracy of both electronic and paper Quality Assurance records. Performs materials testing such as asphaltic materials acceptance and verification subsurface soil surveys shallow borings base and surface course acceptance measurements and construction verification for both DOTD and FHWA Independent Assurance Tests. Collects measures and tests concrete pavement cores for payment determination. Leads a soil boring crew in the collection and analysis of soil samples used to determine roadway type. Assists with project materials Quality Assurance documentation and records audit for construction projects. Performs Dynamic Cone Penetration Testing (DCP) when necessary. 15% Assist the Engineering Technician 7 with the materials quality assurance documentation program by maintaining an accurate and through inventory of all materials samples. Keeps accurate notes of all testing conducted. Enters testing data into appropriate computer database and retrieves information and/or produces reports as necessary. 10% Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing materials sampling and/or testing. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower technicians. 10% Assists in the proper maintenance of all laboratory facilities and testing equipment which includes routine calibration maintenance and certification of sampling and testing equipment. May be required to certify asphalt plants paving equipment and concrete plants. 5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities. 100% How to Apply: No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. SUBSTITUTIONS:

Engineering Technician 1 - The starting salary is $12.22/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 2 - Starting salary is $14.00/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 3 - Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
Engineering Technician 4 - Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $2.00 optional pay for every hour worked.
