Job Description

THE ORGANIZATION

The Alliance of Bioversity International & CIAT delivers research-based solutions that harness agricultural biodiversity and sustainably transform food systems to improve people s lives. Alliance solutions address the global crisis of malnutrition climate change biodiversity loss and environmental degradation.


The Alliance works with local national and multinational partners across Sub Saharan Africa Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia and with public and private sectors. The Alliance is part of CGIAR a global research partnership for a food-secure future dedicated to reducing poverty enhancing food and nutrition security and improving natural resources and ecosystem services.


About the position

The Research Assistant II will support socioeconomic research within the Food Environment and Consumer Behavior (FECB) Lever including research on diets consumer behavior behavioral economics market systems business models food distribution among others.


Key duties & responsibilities

support research activities including the design of qualitative and quantitative survey tools qualitative and quantitative data collection using digital tools management and analysis of data on different aspects and dimensions of the projects under FECB.

contribute to drafting journal articles working papers policy briefs blogs info notes manuals reports and any other scientific publication from the work under FECB.

support stakeholder coordination and engagement both remotely and on the ground through meetings workshops conferences and individual interviews


Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Agricultural economics agribusiness Economics Development Studies or any food system related degree.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in socioeconomics market systems value chains or broadly food system research preferably within the agriculture or health sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex data sets.
  • Experience in scientific writing and publishing of research output such as journal papers working papers blogs policy briefs research notes project reports etc
  • Experience working with CGIAR or other research organisations is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in data collection development and management tools such as ODK SurveyCTO Kobo collects and analysis software such as STATA Excel R SPSS etc.


Terms of employment

This is a nationally recruited position based in Nairobi Kenya. The initial contract will be for one year subject to a probation period of three months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.


This position is graded at BG05 level in a scale of BG01 to BG14 (BG14 being the highest level according to the Alliance job classification framework policy).
