The Division of Traffic Operations Signals and Street Lighting is seeking to hire motivated candidates to perform responsible work in electrical engineering. The successful candidates will engage in research investigations studies or examinations related to the engineering functions or activities of the department or agency. Prepare designs and plans using AutoCAD and evaluate contract documents and specifications working drawings and other technical specifications and estimates of quantities. Conduct field visits and complete lighting survey projects and any improvement requests to ensure city standards IESNA and national electrical codes are met. The successful candidates will coordinate with design consultants and review submitted plans for the development/modification of new and/or existing signalized intersections and street lighting work. Coordinate electrical service relocation and other requests for utilities. Advise and make recommendations to other city and state agencies regarding traffic signal and street lighting projects. Review and approve shop drawings and catalog cuts for construction. Maintain records of drawings plans maps surveys and inspection data.
Some assignments may require a drivers license. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a drivers license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout duration of the appointment in this position.

Qualifications :
1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
A masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area or in any engineering technology area is not acceptable.
