Join our Communications Bureau

The Communications and Board Services Bureau is seeking an exceptional communicator to join our team as a Communications Coordinator. In this role you will be responsible for helping the Districts lead social media strategist monitor and manage the Districts social media platforms which serve as a vital public relations tool to reach wide audiences and support the Districts mission and activities.

As social media continues to grow as a primary source for community news and information this position plays a crucial role in ensuring that the public can interact with the District effectively. You will be at the forefront of engaging with the community addressing their questions comments and concerns through our social media channels.

The District supports employees who prefer a flexible schedule or a remote work schedule so that they can enjoy their time outside of the District through work-life role is considered hybrid which means the employee will be required to come on-site for periodic meetings and work a portion of their time remotely (must live in Florida). Starting Compensation:
Communications Professional 1 $38188.80 - $48685.11
Communications Professional 2 $43347.20 - $55231.65

The starting salary range for the Communications Professional positionreflects the minimum to 50% of the compensation. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Perform communications tactics/tasks assigned to you.
  • Assist the Districts lead social media strategist with managing the Districts social media channels (Facebook X YouTube Pinterest LinkedIn Instagram and Nextdoor).
  • Help plan and develop social media content.
  • Monitor and appropriately respond to messages comments and conversations on social media which includes coordinating with the Districts subject matter experts and seeking proper assistance and approvals as needed.
  • Help track and analyze social media data and metrics.
  • Help identify emerging issues of concern for the public through social media monitoring.
  • Write proofread and revise content such as social media posts and responses blog posts newsletter articles brochure text etc.
  • Help promote the Districts mission and areas of responsibility to the public.
  • Help foster a positive image of the District with the public and specific stakeholder groups.
  • Conduct general public outreach activities such as hosting a booth at public events and tradeshows or giving presentations.
  • Assist with drafting and distributing internal communications as needed.
  • Assist the Communications Section with special projects or additional duties as assigned.
  • Participate in District emergency management activities as needed.

    Working Conditions

    Employee works in a standard office environment. Occasional travel usually during the workday is required. Performs continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 10 pounds. Occasionally requires bending and reaching above shoulder level. May spend time out in the field in remote areas.     Employee may be subject to call-in outside of regularly scheduled work hours or required to be on call including on nights weekends or holidays to respond to emergency management activities or other incidents requiring rapid response in support of District operations.

    Required Credentials for Communications Coordinator

    Communications Coordinator 1

    • Associates degree (or higher) and One (1) year of social media experience
    • Valid drivers license

    Communications Coordinator 2

    • Bachelors degree (or higher) in communications public relations marketing or related field and Two (2) years of social media experience ORAssociates degree (or higher) and Four (4) years of social media experience
    • Valid drivers license

    Preferred Credentials for Communications Coordinator

    • Excellent writer and communicator
    • Ability to proofread and revise your work
    • Ability to translate complex technical language into simpler terms for broad audiences
    • Social media proficiency
    • Ability to shoot and edit social media pictures and video preferred
    • Precise attention to detail
    • Strong customer service
    • Excellent computer skills (MS Excel Word PowerPoint)
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Additional Details

    The primary work location for this position is out of the Brooksville or Tampa FL office. This position is eligible for over-time for hours worked over 40 hours in a week.
