Job Description

Job Title: Head Acrobatics and Tumbling Coach

Department: Athletics

Reports To: Director of Athletics

Status: Full Time

SUMMARY

This full-time position will oversee all aspects of starting a collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling program including but not limited to recruiting qualified student-athletes monitoring academic progress toward degree budgeting scheduling competition and practice preparation individual and program development facility maintenance fundraising and community activity. The candidate should be able to teach basic gymnastic skills through proper progression of technique to ensure safety of the student-athletes. The incumbent must fulfill these duties while adhering to all rules guidelines and principles as set forth by NCATA the NCAA MIAA Conference and Calvin University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Plan and lead training sessions workouts and strength and conditioning program for Acrobatics and Tumbling program.
  • Work with athletic administration to develop contest and practice schedules
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Athletic Department staff and faculty Enrollment and Advancement Division staff and other college constituents.
  • Depending on team size and travel distance drive for out-of-town trips if needed
  • Accept constructive criticism and show evidence of professional growth
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for coaches (Calvin MIAA NCAA)
  • Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with assistant coaches and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks show respect for the competencies of others and demonstrate appropriate resolution behavior.
  • Contribute to the moral and spiritual growth of the student-athletes in keeping with the mission of Calvin University
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and an ability to work with students parents coaches faculty staff administrators and outside contacts

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. The Head Coach must be a confessing Christian who is comfortable in articulating his or her beliefs to the team. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelors degree experience in coaching Acrobatics and Tumbling OR one of the disciplines of gymnastics (artistic acrobatic trampoline power tumbling) OR cheerleading (competitive or sideline) preferably at the collegiate level or high school level.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

The position requires knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • RECRUITING Work collaboratively with the admissions office to recruit new student-athletes that can achieve success academically and athletically at Calvin. Abides by all recruiting rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA.
  • ACADEMICS In coordination with the all the resources at the university monitor academic progress throughout the year to ensure academic success eligibility retention and graduation.
  • LEADERSHIP Communicate skillfully with colleagues subordinates and student-athletes. Maintains self-control and sets an example for sportsmanlike conduct in relationships with your team officials administration and opponents in victory or defeat. Provide clear direction of responsibility and authority. Attend and contribute to athletic department meetings and functions.
  • BUDGET AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENTMonitor budget and expenses routinely and ensure timely turnaround of team credit cards and expense reimbursements. Keep the program within allocated budget parameters.
  • NCAA RULES/COMPLIANCE Adhere to MIAA Conference and NCAA rules. Attend all internal compliance meetings follow departmental policies and complete paperwork and reports on time.
  • FUNDRAISING/ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT. Work with Athletic Director/Department to actively engage alumni and support all fundraising efforts.
  • ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS Assess team competitive performance versus expectations. Analyze how well did the team competed when compared with expectations; adjust as necessary.
