Job Description

Overview

This position leads the provision of care for Critical Care departments and the Trauma Programs at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. Guided by the UnityPoint Health Vision Mission and Strategic Plan the Director is responsible for the overall effective operation of these departments in regard to care delivery quality and safety outcomes employee engagement patient experience regulatory compliance fiscal management and maintenance of trauma designations for each of our four hospitals including the Level I Trauma designation at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He/she uses research and outcomes data to support the design development and implementation of processes and programs that improve patient care and stimulate departmental and organizational growth. The Director works collaboratively with other service lines rural providers and community leaders to maximize care coordination between internal departments as well as for patients within our community and rural settings.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the administrative/operational functions of Critical Care units at Iowa Methodist Medical Center and the Trauma Programs at Iowa Lutheran Hospital Methodist West Hospital Blank Childrens Hospital and Iowa Methodist Medical Center; development of budgets and the effective use of resources strategic planning maintenance of trauma research and data registry functions development of partnerships and relationships to advance the goals of the organization.
  • Assures compliance with requirements to maintain trauma designations including Level 1 Trauma designation at IMMC. This includes timely and accurate data registry research projects and performance improvement activities. Serves as resource for UPH system initiatives as well as community/state initiatives related to Trauma.
  • Responsible for clinical services within the service line including standards of care protocols staffing plans evaluation of patient care data registry and process improvement.
  • Serves as the administrative leader and liaison with physicians and physician activities; serves as the administrative representative to related medical staff departments sections and committees.
  • Responsible for acquiring and allocating human material and financial resources for the functions of the service line.
  • Collaborates with leadership of other service lines to enhance patient throughput and coordination of care between departments.
  • Evaluates current evidence and outcomes data to influence change in regard to operational processes procedures and systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current reimbursement systems and payor sources when evaluating the efficiency of the patients visit.
  • Assumes responsibility for the creation development and implementation of new programs; seeking avenues of growth and new opportunities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Education:

Masters Degree in Nursing or BSN with other applicable masters degree.

Experience:

Three or more years of progressing leadership positions in the healthcare environment.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse.

Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Related specialty or professional certification.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional educational and lifestyle backgrounds.

Knowledge of basic computer skills.

Other:

Ability to travel between campuses frequently with limited notice

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
