Job Description
- Maintain the core network health consisting primarily of Cisco infrastructure in each of the two primary data center locations spanning our two campuses.
- Design implement and support overall routing and switching topology of the campus network to support fast and secure network connectivity from the cores to the clients.
- Work with additional network infrastructure including firewalls network services (i.e. DNS DHCP Radius etc.) load balancers VPN and radius appliances.
- Establish and maintain Data Center network design in support of server storage and enterprise application requirements including virtualized server environments high-performing SAN infrastructures several communications technologies and a full array of enterprise applications.
- Participate in and occasionally manage networking technology specific projects to support upgrades and new initiatives.
- Design implement and test information technology security mechanisms and systems in the context of the networking infrastructure.
- Assist in creating and developing formal guidelines and policies to ensure appropriate network systems support and designs.
- Work with Information Services staff and appropriate members of the Academic community to provide responsive solutions and options for network problems and new opportunities.
- Associates degree required
- Bachelors degree preferred
- Experience may substitute for some of the above education requirements
10 years of experiencein planning designing and implementing enterprise-level network technologies is required
Hands-on experience with Cisco networking hardware Juniper Wireless infrastructure and experience with various routing protocols is preferred
Strong communications skills are required. Must be able to explain difficult abstract concepts verbally in writing (email proposals documentation) and though more formal presentations.
Ability to work collaboratively cooperatively and closely with peers and involved senior management is required.
Awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses is required including an ability to identify and improve in appropriate areas. Must be able to adapt to changing requirements as necessary.
The job occasionally requires work to be performed during overnight and weekend hours.
- Include these Frequent walking to any building on campus.
2. Occasional work in network closets spread out throughout campus.
3. Frequent lifting and carrying of small equipment up to 25 lbs.
4. Infrequent lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.
5. Rare lifting of equipment up to 120 lbs assisted by additional personnel. - Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
