Job Description

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) works in partnership with 15 National Boards to implement the national regulatory scheme for health professionals. The purpose of health practitioner regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills qualifications and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

This is a full time ongoing role based in our Melbourne working a hybrid arrangement.

The Finance Director role is a pivotal leadership role responsible for delivering financial sustainability across Ahpras 15 National Boards. This role plays a critical part in influencing key stakeholders shaping fee-setting strategies leading team management and driving long-term financial forecasting to enable informed decision-making and ensure financial resilience.

In this role you will collaborate with senior leaders National Board members and other stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive financial strategies that align with Ahpras overarching objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Building strong relationships with National Boards and external partners to align financial planning with regulatory priorities.
  • Fee-Setting and Financial Sustainability: Leading the development and consultation of fee-setting strategies in line with cost-recovery principles ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Long-Term Forecasting and Analysis: Overseeing the preparation of detailed financial models and forecasts to anticipate future needs and mitigate risks.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Develop a high-performing team fostering a culture of continuous improvement and driving operational excellence.
  • Insight-Driven Decision Making: Providing expert advice by translating complex financial data into actionable insights for senior leaders.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance leader to play a key role in shaping the financial direction of Australias healthcare regulatory framework and ensure the ongoing success of the National Boards.

About You

You are an experienced finance leader with a proven track record in strategic financial management and stakeholder engagement within large complex organisations or regulatory environments. Your skills and attributes include:

  • Extensive experience in financial forecasting fee-setting and cost-recovery models with a focus on long-term sustainability.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills to influence and align diverse groups.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges leverage opportunities and drive impactful decision-making.
  • Leadership capabilities to develop and inspire a team while fostering innovation and efficiency.
  • Deep understanding of economic trends and financial risks particularly as they relate to regulatory frameworks or healthcare.
