About RISE Prep Academies
RISE Prep Academies is a college preparatory K-12 public charter school network based in Woonsocket Rhode Island where college preparation begins in Kindergarten. Approved by the Rhode Island Board of Education in October 2014 we opened our doors to our founding class of kindergarteners in August 2015 and our founding High School class in August of 2024. Through a rigorous curriculum highly structured learning environment and character education RISE Prep Academies ensures that all Kindergarten through 12th grade students achieve the academic skills content knowledge and character required for the path to college or career. Responsibilities: The School Social Worker at RISE Prep is a critical role to ensure that RISE Prep scholars receive the support they need to be successful in school and in life. The School Social Worker collaborates with members of the RISE Prep team to align supports to ensure a positive school experience.
The School Social Worker will
- be a member of the Lower Academy (K-8) team at 30 Cumberland Street in Woonsocket
- serve as a resource/consultant to the Upper Academy (9-10) at 600 Social Street in Woonsocket (located directly across the street)
Responsibilities for School Social Worker:
- Provide High-Quality Proactive Services to Support Scholar Wellbeing and Ensure a Focus on Learning
- Communicate collaborate and consult with families teachers scholars and any other stakeholders regarding scholar well-being
- Work collaboratively with team members in supporting social skills anger management stress reduction or other similar needs that could impede overall scholar well being and learning including identifying effective emotional regulation strategies for use school-wide
- Communicate and collaborate with partners organizations and local agencies to support scholar and families access to outside resources
- Implement systems aligned to the schools and RISE Academies vision as requested by school/network leaders
- Participate in additional activities including field trips scholar support sessions and other required programs and events as needed throughout year outside of the established school day.
- Provide Responsive Support to Scholars and Families and Support Schools Crisis Management Response Serve as an active member of the Scholar Support team that develops plans of support for scholars and families in crisis to minimize impact on learning and supports implementation of plans
- Collaboratively review data (e.g. teacher referral discipline data etc.) with RISE Prep leaders to identify and/or refer scholars that would benefit from small group social-emotional learning and provide aligned services to meet their needs and goals
- Facilitate social emotional services and interventions to a caseload of scholars including students who have disabilities and have required service time from the School Social Worker in their IEP and/or 504 plans
- Conduct risk assessments as needed for the Lower Academy (K-8) and serves as a resource to the Upper Academy (Grades 9-10) through consultation with the Principal/Superintendent
- Manages Documentation Compliance and Reporting and Models Professionalism and Confidentiality Maintain updated documentation and files for mental health support crisis intervention and/or reporting for the state
- Identify report and support scholars when child abuse or neglect is suspected or confirmed and make timely reporting to the Department of Children Youth and Familes (DCYF) in alignment to state law and RISE Prep protocols and procedures including documentation of incidents
- Serve as the RISE Prep Academies McKinney-Vento Liaison and support homelessness programming across the network including identifying scholars/families that are experiencing homelessness coordinating necessary supports and managing all required reporting
- Use feedback to continuously improve effectiveness in professional practice and job-related tasks
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Candidates must have a Masters Degree in Social Work and current certification as a Social Worker with the Rhode Island Department of Health and/or eligibility for certification see for more information
- Exceptional verbal and written communication in English
- Technological proficiency and comfort with using online platforms
- Preferred:
- Prior experience as a school social worker in an urban school setting across grades K-12
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and personal organizational systems particularly pertaining to time and task management
- Fluency in a language other than English particularly languages spoken by RISE Prep families (e.g. Spanish Arabic French Wolof etc.)

Additionally RISE Prep offers childcare reimbursement MLL certification fellowship pathways tuition reimbursement investments in Special Education certification in addition to a vacation package. Final salary will be determined by years of experience education and current certification.
