Job Description

School Counsellor - Holy Family School

RDCRS is recruiting a school-based counsellor. This is a Division position with initial assignment at Holy Family in Red Deer. This part time position will focus on the school counsellor role. Please note that all work will be on-site.

This position is open to both certificated and non-certificated staff.


Certificated Candidate Requirements:

  • Graduate level training in counselling

    • This may include Masters in Counselling Psychology Masters in School Counselling Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary studies with a focus on school counselling Masters or Bachelor in Social Work

    • Consideration may be given to applicants presently working on a Masters in these areas.

  • Bachelor of Education degree

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience

  • Effective organization and classroom management skills


Non Certificated Candidate Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will possess a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology or equivalent a Bachelors or Masters degree in Social Work or equivalent.

  • Active registration with a relevant college or association.


  • Qualifications for both Certificated and Uncertificated Candidates:
  • Be comfortable working in a Faith filled environment

  • Experience in counselling or social work particularly in a school setting

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly

  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers administrators and parents

  • Cultural sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations

  • Experience in trauma-informed practice

  • Knowledge of multiple counselling approaches

  • Empathy and sensitivity to others needs

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Threat Assessment Training (VTRA CSTAG etc) would be considered an asset

  • Training in ASIST would be considered an asset

  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

The successful candidate will be a strong team member committed to supporting the values of Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.

Compensation will be based on the successful candidates experience certifications and qualifications.
