Job Description

TITLE: INSTRUCTIONAL COACH This position is currently only open to qualified internal Payson Unified School District employees

DEPARTMENT: School and Curriculum Instruction and Assessment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate for grade level and subject.
  2. Bachelors Degree from accredited college or university.
  3. Masters Degree from accredited college or university preferred.
  4. Three years of teaching experience.
  5. Five years of teaching experience preferred.
  6. Must possess a valid Arizona fingerprint clearance card.
  7. Strong evidence of leadership or interventionist roles preferred.
  8. Curriculum Instruction and Assessment program experience.

JOB GOAL:

Instructional Coaches will work to create a system of support for teachers to ensure high quality teaching and learning are taking place in every classroom. They will ensure the diverse needs of all learners are being met by fostering a learning community focused on strong instructional practices with an emphasis on classroom and school level tiered support throughout. They will champion district and leadership initiatives ensuring their success through the implementation and continuous improvement cycles.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following tasks are essential for this position. This list is not inclusive of all responsibilities. Individuals may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed.

  1. Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  2. Develops positive relations with students parents school staff and the public.
  3. Maintains current knowledge of best instructional practices.
  4. Coaches teachers with an emphasis on continuous improvement in all teachers in order to boost performance using best instructional practices.
  5. Works with the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment site leadership team teachers and support staff to ensure quality tiered supports are in place to support students in academics social emotional and behavioral capacities.
  6. Supports teachers in their ability to analyze data to drive instruction as well as fluid and responsive grouping for tiered systems.
  7. Works with the Principal and the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment to identify professional development needs for teachers and create a professional development plan to meet those needs. Uses the district wide professional development and professional learning community calendar to deliver professional development in the identified areas.
  8. Models best practices and oversees professional learning communities.
  9. Acts as a culture leader on campus supporting others in their journey to creating a positive culture and climate through the use of Capturing Kids Hearts.
  10. Works with the Principal to welcome teachers provide professional development and support individual teachers during pre-week.
  11. Supports the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment and Principal with curriculum and assessment coordination.
  12. Supports teachers in their use of curricular resources including digital resources.
  13. First level of response for technical issues which affect teacher and student performance.
  14. Works with the Principal EL coordinator and EL teachers to ensure quality EL programming and appropriate record keeping at each site.
  15. Acts as the school testing coordinator.
  16. Provides site orientation and ongoing support to new teachers through the Begin program.
  17. Participates in the Student Success Team process in order to best identify and meet student needs.
  18. Performs other reasonable duties as directed by the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment or Principal.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE SKILL AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of:

  1. District policies operations and organization.
  2. Interpersonal skills including tact courtesy and diplomacy.
  3. Communication (telephone email etc.) etiquette.
  4. Educational theories and practices.
  5. Research-based instructional programs and strategies.
  6. Federal and state laws rules and regulations governing education.
  7. Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA.
  8. Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards.
  9. Districts Stakeholders.
  10. District curricula assessment and instructional programs.
  11. School culture evidence and research.
  12. Developing and evaluating school programs.
  13. Promoting positive public relations.
  14. Crisis management procedures.
  15. Technology in the educational context.

Skill and Ability to:

  1. Work cooperatively with others.
  2. Demonstrate effective instructional skills.
  3. Demonstrate effective presentation skills for adult learners.
  4. Utilize engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors staff students etc. to exchange information.
  5. Seek innovative ways to support best classroom practices.
  6. Read analyze and interpret written documents including education research.
  7. Analyze and organize student achievement data.
  8. Model data management procedures for teachers.
  9. Communicate both verbally and in writing.
  10. Flexibly and creatively problem solve.
  11. Utilize research and model technical tools to support strong instruction.
  12. Create effective relationships with site faculty and staff District staff vendors and the community.
  13. Provide excellent customer service.
  14. Forecast trends plan and implement goals.

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment and Principal

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Principal with the Director of Curriculum Instruction and Assessment in accordance with the provisions of Governing Board policy in evaluation of certified personnel.

TERMS OFEMPLOYMENT: 166 Days

SALARY: Salary for the position is set according to the Certified Salary Schedule determined by the Governing Board.

FLSA STATUS: Exempt
