Summary:

VCU Child Development Center is seeking aprofessional Education Specialist to support
curriculum development and provideadministrative support throughout the center. This role is designed to supportlesson plan development for classroom teacher use and support the AssistantDirector and Director in fostering a professional learning for the Education Specialist role must have experience in developingage appropriate curriculum for children ages 16 months - 5 years whileproviding specific attention in dissemination of curriculum for lead teachersin classroom settings.

Typical Duties

  • Develop objective based lesson plans/units for center wide use in all six classrooms with specific attention to differentiated age-appropriateness in each age group
  • Provide teachers with planning support and developmentally appropriate suggestions for educational activities and best practices
  • Support classroom activities that are designed to promote physical mental and social
    development; such asgames arts and crafts music storytelling and basic skills
  • Understand and implement STREAMin3 curriculum into objective lesson plans and units
  • Provide Administrative Office support in helping to maintain licensing standards
  • Provide informal and formal observations of teachers
  • Maintain developmental assessment goals and curriculum adopted by the centers development assessment tool ASQ
  • Support in developing staff professional development and training as necessary to grow professional knowledge and skills
  • Required Monday-Friday hours 8:30-5:30
  • Closing the Administrative Office daily greeting families and visitors at the front desk

Knowledgeof preschool education

  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally
  • Ability to develop design and create learning goals using STREAMin3 curriculum
  • Ability to maintain leadership in among teaching staff and students
  • Ability to identify the professional needs of staff and help to improve their knowledge of teachingskills
  • Ability to coach and mentor teachers provide regular feedback and develop a formal educational or training program or classes to meet those needs
  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution
    and solve problems
  • Demonstrated experience working in community engagement early childhood experiences and/or volunteer coordination
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty staff and
    student environmentor commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Education Elementary Education Curriculum Development Special Education or related field
  • 1-3 years professional experiences in educational leadership roles
  • Active VA Professional Postgraduate teaching license with endorsements in either PK-6 Early Childhood Special Education Curriculum Development or related endorsement.
  • 2-3 year of classroom teaching experience in early childhood or early elementary classroom settings
  • Experience with STREAMin3 curriculum in early childhood settings insert

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Education Elementary Education Curriculum Development or related field
  • 2-3 years relevant teaching experience or equivalent
  • Previous early childhood education or early childhood coaching experience
