Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

We are hiring for a Director of Post-Secondary Programs to manage and coordinate all post-secondary education initiatives that includes colleges trades and enrichment programs aligning them with state workforce development goals to enhance career readiness. This role involves participating in strategic education planning gathering and reviewing data to improve instructional programming and aligning high school curricula with post-secondary opportunities for a seamless educational continuum. Additionally The Director of Post-Secondary Programs ensures fiscal accountability by managing program expenditures and resources responsibly.
This position will report directly to the Superintendent of Education.

The work scheduled is Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.

We ask that you ensure your Professional Teaching License is current at all times based upon the renewal schedule put forth by the Virginia Department of Education.

Core Responsibilities include (not limited to):

  • Instructional Leadership - Collaborates with administrators staff and stakeholders to articulate and support a shared vision of learning that connects middle/high school programs with post-secondary pathways including technology and workforce readiness.
  • Program Development and Innovation - Lead the development of procedures to optimize program delivery and outcomes. Work with stakeholders including educational institutions and employers to identify trends and opportunities for program innovation.
  • Program Monitoring and Evaluation - Develops and manages systems for monitoring student progress in workforce readiness and credentialing programs.
  • Communication and Community Relation - Facilitates community outreach events workshops and informational sessions to increase awareness and engagement around post-secondary pathways. Serves as a liaison between the school district and community stakeholders to advocate for student needs and program support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • In-depth understanding of post-secondary education including college programs vocational training and enrichment initiatives.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations related to post-secondary education and workforce development.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with senior leaders government officials and community stakeholders.
  • Strategic planning and problem-solving abilities with a focus on outcomes-based decision-making.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management within an educational or governmental context.
  • Ability to think critically and analyze complex problems related to education and workforce development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple sectors and build consensus around common goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to represent the agency in professional settings and public forums effectively.

Additional Considerations

  • Education: Must possess a masters degree or higher in Educational Leadership or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensure: Must possess a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
