Job Description

Job Title: Principal Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Superintendent Date Revised: May 2023

Dept./School: Assigned Campus

Summary:

Direct and manage overall campus operations. Responsible for leadership of the campus instructional program ensuring

high standards of instruction and student achievement compliance with district policies application of instructional

programs and effective operation of all campus activities.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Masters degree from an accredited university
  • Two years experience as a classroom teacher
  • Two years experience in instructional leadership roles
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certified Texas Teacher Support and Evaluation System (T-TESS) appraiser

Other Skills and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  2. Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness.

  4. Ability to coordinate campus functions.

  12. Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  13. Ability to assist in coordinating and/or providing virtual/distance learning to students via Google Classroom and other multimedia options in response to pandemics natural disasters catastrophic events etc.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

  1. Monitor instructional processes to ensure that program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
  2. Provide instructional resources and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals.
  3. Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regards to instructional strategies classroom management and communication with the public.
  4. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  5. Solicit regular input from campus-level committee about planning operation supervision and evaluation of campus education program. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.

School and Organization Improvement

  1. Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of schools mission.
  2. Establish campus performance objectives for Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and involving site-based decision-making committee. Demonstrate campus progress using results to promote school improvement.
  3. Provide opportunities for interactive communication with superintendent staff students parents and community.
  4. Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
  5. Identify analyze and apply research findings (e.g. effective schools correlates) to promote school improvement.

Student Management

  1. Act as campus behavioral coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  2. Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  3. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  4. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents students and teachers.

Management of Fiscal Administrative and Facilities Functions

  1. Comply with district policies state and federal laws and regulations affecting schools.
  2. Develop and administer campus budgets based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  3. Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition textbooks.
  4. Manage use of school facilities. Oversee maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean orderly and safe campus.

Personnel Management

  1. Select train supervise and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment retention discipline and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
  2. Interview select and orient new staff.
  3. Observe employee performance record observations and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
  4. Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
  5. Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
  6. Assign and promote campus personnel.
  7. Make recommendations to superintendent on termination suspension or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.

School or Community Relations

  1. Articulate the schools mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  2. Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  2. Demonstrate professional ethical and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
  3. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

Other

  1. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  4. Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work meetings and appointments.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise evaluate and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s) teachers counselor(s) librarian(s) instructional aides administrative assistants other office support staff and custodians.

Equipment Used:

Computer telephone printer copier fax machine calculator and other standard office equipment and peripherals.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee works with frequent interruptions. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day and the location of the activity. Occasional absences are understood but regular attendance is required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit occasionally walk and stand occasional bend/stooping pushing/pulling twisting and travel from one building to another or to other sites. Light to moderate lifting is required (less than 15 lbs.); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior. This position requires meeting deadlines with severe constraints interacting with the public and staff and enduring irregular or extended work hours. The employee may work inside and outside (exposure to sun heat cold and inclement weather). There may be occasional districtwide and statewide travel. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

In accordance with TEA regulations STET/HMPS will provide virtual/distance learning when it is necessary. This platform will be conducted either from a classroom or a location other than the school building as approved by the Superintendent. Employee will be subject to virtual/distance learning policies and procedures as set forth in the employee handbook.
