Estate Management (EM) at UNSW provides strategic and operational support for planning developing and maintaining the Universitys property and assets. EM supports the UNSW Strategy: Progress for All by creating a safe sustainable world-class campus.

The Senior Manager Engineering Services oversees the strategic and technical delivery of core engineering servicesmechanical electrical hydraulic and civil. Responsible for ensuring systems are safe compliant and efficient the role aligns with university-wide planning and sustainability goals. Reporting to the Head of Design it leads specialist engineers and integrates services into new builds refurbishments renewals and long-term strategy.

About the Role

This role will oversee the Engineering Services team at the University. You will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership across UNSWs engineering infrastructure including electrical mechanical hydraulic and civil systems.
  • Lead and develop the Engineering Services team to foster innovation technical excellence and a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee engineering inputs into the design and delivery of capital projects and refurbishments ensuring systems are compliant efficient and support long-term asset value.
  • Develop and implement technical standards engineering policies and design guidelines consistent with UNSWs goals and statutory regulations.
  • Lead WHS and risk management strategies with a focus on public safety research integrity and business continuity.
  • Collaborate across Estate Management including Asset Management Design Delivery & Development and Facilities Management.
  • Support projects via engagement with consultants contractors and authorities to ensure quality compliance and value for money in service delivery.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders on engineering risks opportunities and infrastructure planning.
  • Provide high-level advice and technical expertise to the Facilities Management team supporting risk mitigation strategies and facilitating informed decision making on complex projects.

About You

  • Degree in Mechanical Electrical Hydraulic Civil or a related Engineering discipline with eligibility for professional accreditation (e.g. Engineers Australia).
  • Extensive experience in managing engineering infrastructure in large or complex institutional environments.
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver integrated strategic engineering outcomes.
  • Strong expertise in the design operation and regulation of systems including HVAC BMS electrical distribution water sewer trade waste fire and gas infrastructure.
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant codes and standards (e.g. BCA WHS AS/NZS NCC EPA local councils).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets including forecasting and project cost control. Effective stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels.
  • Experience in managing external consultants regulatory interfaces and contractor performance.
  • Highly proficient in engineering software and asset management tools including AutoCAD Revit and MS Office.
