Job Title: Director of Academics Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
Reports to: Executive Director of Academics Pay Grade: Admin Pay 6 Dept. /School: Advanced Academic Services Days: 227
Supervises: Academic Coordinators
Primary Purpose:
To provide leadership and strategic coordination for the implementation of curriculum and instructional programs across all content areas ensuring vertical and horizontal alignment instructional rigor and equitable student access to advanced academic programming. Serves as a direct supervisor and coach to academic coordinators and gifted/advanced services staff. Supports the Executive Director in translating the districts vision into actionable systems and practices.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Masters degree required
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Principal certification preferred
T-TESS certification preferred
Special Knowledge Skills:
Expertise in curriculum design instruction and assessment
Knowledge of TEKS STAAR and state/federal accountability
Understanding of gifted education and advanced academic services
Strong leadership coaching collaboration and communication skills
Experience:
Minimum five years successful classroom teaching
District or campus instructional leadership experience
Experience supervising or coaching educators preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional and Program Management
Direct academic services to meet student needs
Plan implement and evaluate academic programs with coordinators and principals including objectives strategies and assessments
Apply research and data to improve academic programs and outcomes
Collaborate with staff to develop maintain and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review
Oversee development and implementation of curriculum-based assessments
Monitor the use of academic resources and digital tools for alignment and effectiveness
Evaluate GT identification systems and ensure compliance with TEA State Plan
Supervise GT Specialists and Academic Coordinators
Plan and support parent engagement events GT Showcase Camp SIP and Academic Decathlon
Collaborate with AP and Honors teachers and coordinators to support academic programming
Lead professional learning and provide instructional coaching for AP campus coordinators
Design and facilitate training for coordinators and advanced academic staff
Coordinate PLC systems across content areas and ensure alignment with district initiatives
Support campus instructional leadership teams through coaching and collaborative planning
Analyze student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and continuous improvement
Evaluate program effectiveness and recommend adjustments based on data and feedback
Support the implementation and monitoring of district Academic and Accountability initiatives
Leadership and Collaboration
Supervise and evaluate assigned staff including coordinators and specialists
Assist with recruitment selection and development of academic leadership personnel
Participate in campus visits to assess Academic and Accountability implementation and provide support
Serve as liaison between coordinators and the Executive Director
Collaborate with departments such as but limited to Special Education Bilingual/ESL CCMR and Accountability CTE to ensure equity and coherence
Maintain consistent communication systems across K-12 academic teams
