About the Opportunity

Join a dynamic and well-established Cytology Laboratory within the Department of Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology at ICPMR Westmead Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a broad network of laboratories across NSW contributing to improved health outcomes for patients.

Our Cytology Laboratory is a vital component of the NSW Health Pathology network staffed by a dedicated team of technical scientific and medical professionals. Together we provide specialist non-gynaecological and gynaecological cytology services that enable clinicians to deliver the best possible care and treatment decisions for their patients.

What we can offer you

Interested in joining Australias largest public pathology service Apply now by addressing the following questions:

  1. Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science with Cytology subjects as well as hold a Certificate of Cytotechnology -Australian Society of Cytology (CT(ASC)) or a commitment to preparing for and obtaining. Academic transcripts to be provided with application.
  2. Knowledge and experience in a routine diagnostic Cytology Laboratory with demonstrable Cytology skills including but not limited to preparing and reporting of Cytology specimens and fine needle aspiration procedure attendance for rapid on-site evaluation and triage of samples.
  3. Well-developed interpersonal oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clinical laboratory and support staff as well as accurate evaluation of patient clinical information.
  4. Demonstrated high level of initiative with a commitment to ongoing development and education.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work responsibly as part of a team and independently to deliver results within specified timeframes manage competing priorities and contribute to a range of diagnostic skills relevant to the laboratory.
  6. Sound decision making attention to detail and problem solving skills with the ability to apply established principles to investigate and resolve issues within the laboratory environment.
  7. Dedicated to quality and customer service improvement while maintaining flexibility to meet service and patient needs.

Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2023022 Occupational Assessment Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases. All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a functional assessment prior to appointment.
