The position of General School Assistant - CTE is responsible for assisting certificated staff in the Horticulture classes at Interlake High School to perform routine instructional and support tasks related to students educational development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
Adapts communication style to needs of students provides support and assistance to students in classroom and non-classroom settings; assists with communication with student families as assigned; assists in developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for students as assigned.
Monitor the safe operation of the horticulture equipment supervise students in a retail work environment of the flower shop and greenhouse and encourage students to use appropriate behavior.
Perform routine tasks in monitoring and assisting student progress within the horticulture classroom.
Work with small groups (may be multi-graded) or individual students including special needs students to improve academic skills (i.e. math/reading).
Assist teachers in the development and preparation of relevant educational tools materials and strategies to meet individual needs.
Meets with students individually or in small groups to assist them with lesson assignments and subject matter.
Reinforce listening and verbal skills; may reinforce math or reading skills (increase comprehension vocabulary development reading for information and enjoyment).
Assist certificated staff to encourage the integration of students into instructional and social activities offered by the school; may accompany groups of students on field trips and other outings.
Attend relevant in-service training sessions and workshops.
Attend appropriate staff meetings to coordinate instruction and to understand building goals.
Observes and records students individual progress on instructional objectives; maintains appropriate data and reports; adjusts objectives as indicated by monitoring of student progress; participates in conferences with students and parents.
Helps students to develop a positive attitude about self academic achievement and school.
Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Required:
High school graduation or equivalent and
Have at least one of the following:
ETS Paraeducator Assessment or
Have an Associate of Arts degree (original transcripts) or
Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education (original transcripts) or
Have completed a registered apprenticeship program (certificate);
Foreign degrees accepted if evaluated by a NACES member company.
Preferred:
Experience working in a school setting

A variety of reading and/or math methods

Organize and complete tasks; observe confidentiality
Relate to students of different cultures
Maintain effective relations with students staff and the public
Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
AISP pay range 3$28.06 to $30.01 (starting at $28.06 per hour)32.5 hours a weekM-F from8:30am to 3:30pmfor a 192-day assignment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Benefits include retirement medical dental vacation holidays and other benefits according to Board policy.
