About the Department:

At Backroads our people are our most cherished resource. The People & Culture department puts people first in a way that supports both our employees and the business. Within the People & Culture area there are two teams. Our People Operations team is responsible for compliance benefits compensation payroll and other employee programs. Our Talent Development Team is responsible for recruiting hiring & onboarding developing culture centralizing training and supporting performance management.

About the role:

The People & Culture Assistant plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the Talent Development and People Operations teams playing an integral role in creating a smooth supportive experience for employees across the Backroads. This role provides a mix of administrative and logistical support across a wide range of team functions including onboarding scheduling internal communications file and policy management and general coordination of People & Culture activities. Success in this role requires a quick-learning detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills sound judgment and a strong service ethicsomeone who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys making things easier for those around them.

What youll be doing:

  • Administrative support to the Talent Development & People Operations teams
  • Maintaining digital and paper files
  • Supporting Onboarding of new hires
  • Scheduling meetings and setting up conference rooms
  • Drafting emails and managing team inboxes
  • Support minor monthly office events
  • Updating employee policy documents
  • Organize out-of-town employee visits to the Berkeley office
  • Assisting with a variety of People & Culture department projects

What youll need to be successful:

  • Exceptional organizational skills strong detail orientation and rapid data entry ability.
  • Proficiency with MS Office required advanced Excel skills a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work at a computer desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Friendly helpful and upbeat personality with a strong desire to assist fellow employees
  • Unwavering good discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Enthusiastic about working for Backroads and have a passion for active travel and the outdoors.
  • 1 year of administrative experience minimum

Work Environment:

  • Berkeley CA
  • On-site 4 days in office
