The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontarios capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The mandate of the OSC is to provide protection to investors from unfair improper or fraudulent practices to foster fair efficient and competitive capital markets and confidence in the capital markets to foster capital formation and to contribute to the stability of the financial system and the reduction of systemic risk. This mandate is performed through policy operational and enforcement activities. The OSC also contributes to national and global securities regulation development.

The OSC is currently recruiting for Student-At-Law: Strategic Regulation positions to work from August 2026 to June 2027. Please see below for a more detailed description of these opportunities. Build your work experience through an articling opportunity with Canadas largest securities regulator.

Strategic Regulation Student-At-Law

Strategic Regulation is a centre of excellenceat the OSC for insight analysis and advice on emergingtrends and innovation. In partnership with our OSC colleagues we shape and influence conversations on the evolution of Ontarios capital markets. Our actions are driven by a commitment to foster resilient efficient and prosperous capital markets for Ontario.

The Strategic Regulation portfolio is currently seeking an Articling Student. The Student-at-Law position will support priorities across all teams within the Strategic Regulation division and help advance the organizations strategic objectives:

  • Thought Leadership Modernizing Regulation: Support the identification of emerging trends conduct regulatory research on diverse topics with a focus on emerging technologies as well as contribute to policy projects.
  • Investor Office: Contribute to investor focused policy projects develop plain-language materials to support investor education and bridge the gap between legal complexities and retail investor understanding.
  • Economic Growth and Innovation: Support initiatives targeted at capital formation including industry specific research and approaches to capital formation in other jurisdictions for startups and SMEs as well as providing support through programs such as OSC LaunchPad and OSC TestLab.

Role Requirements

Applicants must have an excellent academic record and demonstrate a high standard of legal research and writing. To excel at this role applicants should have strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple demands on their time. Applicants must be able to work independently and collaboratively. An ability to seek out additional information and adapt their style to suit their audience will serve applicants well in this multi-faceted role. Familiarity with and interest in securities laws corporate law technology law and/or an understanding of emerging technology retail investor needs or the startup ecosystem would be an asset.
