Job Description

The Director of Operations Versant News ensures the efficient operation of a key property in the News division at Versant - CNBC.

The Director of Operations will know the teams they support at every level be a regular presence in newsrooms control rooms and remote productions to ensure they maintain a firsthand understanding of how products are used by teams and what pain points exist. You will partner with members of the News divisions senior team to maintain standards across all News production groups and ensure appropriate onboarding and training materials exist and remain up-to-date.

You will collaborate with executive stakeholders and editorial leaders across business units to help define product vision assess technology needs and implement solutions that impact thousands of internal users. You will be responsive to concerns anticipate needs; foster innovation by accelerating promising home-grown projects and ideas; and you will be a well-spring of ideas about how to employ cutting edge technology to help our journalists meet their mission.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with editorial stakeholders to understand daily and emergent challenges. Collaborate with Versants engineering product and tech teams to pilot and implement newsroom toolsparticularly in the areas of automation artificial intelligence and collaborative planning systems.
  • Ensure editorial production and technological elements align seamlessly. Bridge editorial and technical workflows by identifying communication gaps and aligning systems to support journalists.
  • Apply a hands-on understanding of editorial workflows to streamline news production. Leverage best practices and new technologies to increase speed-to-consumer reduce redundancy and enhance coordination between teams especially working to bridge divides between television and digital teams.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with producers directors editors technical staff and creatives to ensure cross-functional alignment and consistent execution at every level. 
  • Own the creation of and regular communication with newsroom SMEs to enable change management gather quality feedback on all projects and ensure all members and divisions of the newsroom benefit from operational advancements.
  • Identify areas for cost efficiency while maintaining high editorial standards and operational agility.
  • Manage a small team who are tasked with directly engaging editorial stakeholders and driving innovation.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in senior newsroom editorial positions broadcast operations
  • Deep familiarity with newsroom technologies production control rooms editorial software systems and AI LLMs.
  • Proven experience leading complex editorial and production teams in live news environments.
  • Demonstrated success launching innovative broadcast and digital projects with proven ability to influence and lead teams through significant operational enhancements and technological transitions.
  • Strong leadership organizational analytical and interpersonal skills.

  • This position has been designated as hybrid generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

  • Salary range: $150000-$210000 (bonus eligible)
