The Engineering Services Department is looking to fill an Assistant Engineer vacancy in our Land Development Section.
THE POSITION
LAND DEVELOPMENT & PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTION
Reporting to a Principal Civil Engineer the Assistant Engineer will be a part of a team consisting of a total of one (1) Associate Engineer three (3) Assistant Engineers two (2) Engineering Technicians (a total of 7 staff members). This position supports the Land Development Section by performing a variety of field and office tasks related to project review and entitlement processing. Primary responsibilities may include but not limited to managing and facilitating development projects through the entitlement process as well as conducting engineering plan checks for various types of development. Projects may include single family residential commercial and industrial development projects. Specific plan check duties may include but not limited to grading WQMP storm drain systems and street improvements. The role requires coordination with internal departments external consultants and developers/engineers to ensure timely and accurate project approvals.
Your responsibilities will include the following:

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to public works; related federal and state laws ordinances and regulations; methods and techniques utilized in the preparation of public works projects designs and related plans specifications and cost estimates; principles and methods utilized in surveying and material testing. Ability to perform professional engineering work including project design; conduct inspections and evaluate construction relative to approved plans and specifications; coordinate the work of others involved in related activities; prepare and maintain records and prepare reports; interpret and apply related laws ordinances and regulations; use a personal computer and software related to specific assignments; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate California drivers license and a satisfactory driving record.
