Job Description

Position Title: Licensed Clinician (Part-Time)


Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.


Primary Responsibilities/Function:

Our Clinician provides consultation revises and approves care plans in partnership with our Enhanced Care Managers (ECMs). Our ECMs support individuals who are served by Medi-Cals managed care plans in San Diego County and are part of one of the populations of focus identified by CalAIM namely individuals experiencing or at risk of experiencing homelessness individuals who have frequent avoidable visits to the ER/hospital individuals with serious mental health conditions or substance use disorder needs children/youth in CA childrens services needing additional support or children/youth presently in foster care or who were in foster care on their eighteenth birthday individuals transitioning to the community following incarceration adults at risk for long term institutionalization or individuals staying in skilled nursing facilities wanting to transition to the community. Our Clinician meets with our enhanced care managers to provide consultation and ensure their clients are making progress towards their goals. This is a hybrid position with work conducted in our offices in San Diego as well as from your home office.


This is a Part-Time position where our clinician will work approximately two to four hours per week during our business hours (Monday-Friday: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM).


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult on care plan goals and action steps.
  • Review and approve care plans within established timeframes.
  • Weekly meetings with ECMs to understand clients needs preferences and progress towards goals.
  • Provide culturally sensitive gender affirming and trauma-informed support to all individuals served.
  • Promote the use of evidence-based practices such as motivational interviewing housing first and harm reduction principles when providing support to our enhanced care managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Accountability: Reports to the Lead Enhanced Care Manager

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be licensed in California as an LCSW or possess a similar license.
  • Minimum of one year of experience supporting individuals experiencing mental health or substance use conditions.
  • Strong positive viewpoint towards individuals living with mental health conditions substance use conditions homelessness recent history of justice involvement and their families.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Office: Outlook Word Excel) and web navigation.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills positivity attention to detail flexibility and enjoy working in an ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent planning organizing analyzing problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Ability to get along and work effectively with others.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance.

Additional Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience providing consultation and support to case managers or peer specialists is highly preferred.
  • Case management experience is preferred.
  • Experience supporting unserved/underserved groups such as those described in the primary responsibilities/functions section is strongly preferred.
  • Personal lived experience or with a family member or loved one with mental health conditions substance use or homelessness is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and use of recovery language preferred.
