Job Description

Automotive Technology Instructor Third-Shift Program Salem High School Salem MA SY 2025-2026

Grant Funded Position

Salem High School is the recipient of a Career Technical Initiative grant from Commonwealth Corporation on behalf of the Baker Administration to increase a skilled workforce in the trades through third shift programs.

This initiative announced by Governor Baker seeks to address the persistent need for skilled labor in construction trades and manufacturing. Commonwealth Corporation administers these funds in hopes of eliminating the skills gap facing employers by providing an opportunity for youth and adults to retrain for skilled occupations as well as transforming vocational high schools into Career Technical Institutes that run three shifts a day to bring more high school students and adults into the program.

As part of a multi-year strategy CTI plans to train 20000 new skilled workers in key trades and technical jobs. Among the grants approved by the Workforce Skills Cabinet in 2021 35 new career pathway programs and 22 expansions of career pathway programs at 10 vocational-technical schools will provide training and job placement for more than 800 adults.

What Youll Do:

This individual is accountable for the teaching and supervision of students in all of the Construction cluster programs in collaboration with the other construction program instructors. This program falls under Chapter 74 Massachusetts state frameworks and curriculum disciplines under the direction of the CTE/CTI Director and the CTI Director of Workforce Development Director of Operations and Grants.


Role Responsibilities:

  • Teach safety and all industry-related curriculum material in both classroom and shop settings.
  • Align lessons to the CVTE MA state frameworks.
  • Ensure students have the opportunity to obtain industry-recognized credentials/certifications.
  • Engage in school-wide professional development and/ or department-specific initiatives.
  • Adhere to the school policy of tracking attendance and grades.
  • Utilize all school-wide technology.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five years of full-time employment experience directly related to automotive technology.
  • Current ASE certification in at least three areas of Automotive Technology.
  • Massachusetts teachers licensure in Automotive Technology Chapter 74 (or willingness to work towards).
  • Current authorization to work in the US.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Advanced educational preparation.
  2. Curriculum development experience and knowledge of technical competencies with curriculum frameworks.
  3. Competent in computer applications.
  4. Ability to speak Spanish.
  5. Demonstrated experience supporting students with disabilities.
  6. Demonstrated experience supporting English language Learners.

Work Year: Grant funded: September 2025 - May 2027

FTE/Hours: Part-time Evening Hours 4:00pm - 9:00pm Monday through Thursday.

Salary:$60.00 / hour
