Job Description

As part of the Karis Disability Services District Office team the Seasonal Social Services Assistant works alongside Karis Managers to gain experience in developmental services operations researching event planning fundraising and data information management and organization. They will participate in researching training/educational resources and opportunities for people learn about and support some fundraising efforts and support planning upcoming organizational events.

The Seasonal Social Services Assistant will respect and uphold the Values Vision and Mission of Karis Disability Services demonstrating the highest standards of courtesy and respect in their dealings with other employees persons supported and both internal and external stakeholders. This position is open to all persons regardless of religion or any Human Rights Code protected grounds.

Job Duties:

  • Research Planning and Coordination
  • Provide a plan of activities in support of the needs and interests of the person using our services including but not limited to: Indoor and outdoor activities social groups educational spiritual programs creative exercise employment volunteer and community integration programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with people to assess the success of their community involvement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with people identifying assets and gifts in the person and taking direction from them as to how they would like to connect and participate in the community.
  • Research develop and communicate a monthly calendar of community events that people who use our services can participate in within their community.
  • Research catalogue and share community opportunities.
  • Search for and promote various ways people can share their gifts within their community.
  • Support individuals to pursue meaningful educational volunteer and/or employment opportunities.
  • Facilitate and attend meetings (virtual/in-person) including documentation of meeting minutes.
  • Promote full citizenship and self-determination.

Requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program for this position:

  • The candidate will work 32 hours a week for approximately 8-16 weeks.
  • Be between the ages of 18-30 at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
