The City of Bellevue is currently accepting applications for a Utility Telemetry Technician. This position reports to the Operations Supervisor and is critical to the Citys utility infrastructure and the security thereof. The Technician is primarily responsible for maintaining the Citys telemetry communications and related systems as well as applicable instrumentation used by the Citys water sewer storm water and other departments.

Due to the nature of this job the position will be required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis and requires on demand overtime to resolve issues that run over the normal working day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Performs tests repairs calibrates and programs Bellevue Utilities telemetry system; maintains the Citys telemetry communications systems; maintains all related documentation.
  • Performs tests repairs calibrates and programs instrumentation for water wastewater stormwater security systems and the main telemetry control panels at Bellevue Utilities.
  • Provides electrical maintenance support for all Bellevue Utilities water wastewater and stormwater facilities including but not limited to water reservoirs and pump stations wastewater pump stations flush stations and stormwater flow control facilities.
  • Maintains software documentation for programmable controllers and variable speed drives; maintains schematic diagrams and technical information on all telemetry units motor control centers security systems and auxiliary systems.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or a GED equivalent.
  • Five or more years of professional related experience working with electrical systems and/or electronics.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education experience and training that meet the requirements as outlined above.
  • Washington General Journeyman Electrical license or 07 Non-Residential Maintenance license preferred but not required
  • Electronic Technician certification preferred but not required.

Additional Qualification Criteria

  • The ability to develop a working knowledge of PLC Language cultivate and obtain programming abilities related to current and/or future SCADA software and industrial control configuration programs related to variable frequency drives electronic soft starts and HMI visualization interfaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Good knowledge of basic electronics and electrical instrumentation including pneumatics hydraulics and analog/digital end devices
  • Ability to work with and maintain electrical equipment up to 480V
  • Ability to be trained in video and digital recording equipment.
  • Ability to learn computer networking.
  • Required to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • This position requires on demand overtime to resolve issues that run over the normal working day.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State Drivers license by date of hire. Must have and maintain a good driving record.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background investigation.
  • Ability to anticipate problems analyze situations recognize alternatives evaluate impacts and find appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety procedures work rules policies and guidelines as it relates to municipal maintenance and construction activities.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a team member and to promote a positive environment and maintain appropriate relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to complete assignments on time.
  • Ability to organize tasks and to prioritize work.
  • Exceptional verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsThe physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • The employee will be required to climb reservoir ladders and stairs up to 100 in height.
  • Work involves walking talking hearing using hands to handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to push pull lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • The employee must have the ability to climb in and out of vaults or stations that can be up to 50 underground
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
  • The employee may be required to operate and work in a man-lift up to 35 feet above ground level.
  • Duties are performed both in the office and outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Work also includes confined space work in underground vaults water storage tanks and sewer wet wells.
